What sets The Godfather II apart from other games set in Miami is how the developers created a fictionalized recreation of the city set in the late 50s. Ocean Drive doesn't exist but an ENTIRE district inspired by it does
Finished my replay of The Godfather 2 (2009)
I have so much nostalgia for this game, It was probably one of the first games I actually managed to finish in my life and I've always loved it. Obviously I realize now its not THAT great but it's just such a stupidly fun little game, it has great shooting mechanics and super satisfying animation work for finishing off enemies and melee combat. I also just love the Don system and how you slowly take over rackets and wipe out rival families, I'd honestly love if another game took a crack at this exact formula as clearly they had a great idea here. It's crazy how Mafia 3 of all games, was inspired by this.
It's also really cool that this game has Miami, it's just awesome to see the Keys off in the distance, or how for some reason the beaches are all closed around the map. It's honestly such a silly game, you can tell they probably cut a ton of content and the whole thing was rushed, but there's real love put into this game and I honestly had a ton of fun on this replay. Also its weird how this game has almost nothing to do with the actual movie of Godfather 2, whole thing barely acknowledges those events which is kinda funny.
I heard a ton of amazing things about the first Godfather game, so I think I'll be playing that for the first time ever next. I am really enjoying revisiting old games at the moment, haven't been in the head space to play new stuff so its been endearing to revisit this game from my childhood. I highly recommend replaying it, if you grew up with it.
