In the latest Julia Visits, Racing Foundation Chair Julia Budd tells us about the pilot project aiming to tackle loneliness as part of horseracing’s social impact strategy.
The Loneliness Pilot, which concluded earlier this month, is a 12-month programme which was developed as one of the projects supporting Racing’s wider Powering Positive Change social impact strategy. The pilot, delivered by
@RacingTogether with support from Holbeck Together, Wakefield RDA and Pontefract Racecourse (
@ponteraces), was testing what can happen when racing stakeholders work collectively around one social issue.
Loneliness was the selected social issue because in 56 out of the 60 communities where racecourses are located, national statistics reported that at least 40% of people in those communities experience loneliness.
"This partnership is important because the pilot is not simply about funding individual activities," said Julia. "It is about learning what works when racing comes together around a common purpose, and making sure those lessons can help shape how the industry approaches social impact in the future."
The loneliness pilot has been co-funded by the Racing Foundation,
@godolphin and the
