Here are @JeremyDBoreing and @BlakeSNeff describing the exact same phenomenon that @megbasham just demonstrated: Tucker helped people financially when they were in need, supported their careers, gave them advice, and did them personal favors. The only thing I disagree with the recipients of Tucker's favors on is why he did it. They seem to believe he did these things because he is, or at least can be, a genuinely good person. I strongly disagree. I think Tucker was playing a long game: He was building a network of influence, personal loyalty, and indebtedness that would protect him from criticism and isolation, so that he could later do the damage he is doing to the Republican Party today without being cast out for it. These relationships became a protective shield, built years in advance. What others see as generosity and kindness was a calculated investment: the strategy of a highly manipulative person, not the favors of someone acting out of the goodness of his heart. How do you know it's a strategy and not a coincidence? Look at how often the retarded right keeps repeating that loyalty matters most in politics. It's a system that's been deliberately put in place, not something happening at random.

I appreciate Megan Basham. I don’t agree with her on everything, and I think she has some blind spots about some of the more authoritarian leaning post-libs, but I’m aware I TOO have blind spots (!). Obviously. I’m also friends with and appreciate Mik Olson. I agree with him more than I don’t, but even with Mik - I don’t agree on everything. I’m not picking on anybody. I like both of these people and I’m saying it’s OK if you do too. It also grieves me to see escalations between people I believe to be sincere believers, that become fruitless public he-said she-said, hard to follow minutia. To onlookers I think it’s confusing and to others it is disappointing. A lot of people who used to masquerade as conservatives have in the past year or two evolved into something completely different. Woke right. Anti-Constitution and Anti-liberty and Anti-Christian. Sometimes it takes time to see that clearly in people we used to trust. Or to figure out where people now stand. Sometimes it’s good to step back and think about the witness we are or are not being for others. Myself included (!). This is nothing I haven’t told myself. Or had a friend tell me. In my mind, there are people who have removed all doubt about where they stand (Webbon, for example, on the side of darkness). And then there are people we just don’t agree with (yet?). I try to give them grace, as they give it to me. We barely won a reprieve from a Communist leftist administration in 2024.
