Read past the headline in today's @thetimes on constraints payments and it is clear, te problem isn’t wind, it’s wires! £1.28bn of the £1.5bn highlighted was actually spent turning gas plants ON because the grid can’t get enough cheap wind to consumers. Build the grid and constraint costs are expected to fall 75% by 2030 according to @ofgem and @neso_energy

This week, team RenewableUK bid a very fond farewell to our Deputy CEO Jane Cooper 🥹
Jane has been with us since 2022, having previously served as the Director of Regulatory and External Affairs at Ørsted, and has played a key role in establishing landmark collaborative partnerships between industry and Government, including the Offshore Wind Sector Deal and the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership 🤝
Most recently, Jane stepped into her leadership role as Deputy CEO in February 2025 and has worked tirelessly to ensure RenewableUK has continued to deliver on our priorities at a critical time for our sector. Jane has shown outstanding leadership and support for our CEO Tara Singh (@RenewableUKCEO), helping strongly position us as we continue to navigate the evolving and ever-challenging political and media landscape.
On behalf of the entire team, we would like to express our utmost gratitude to Jane for the expertise, resilience, and clarity with which she has supported, mentored and helped us grow.

This morning, @energygovuk and @GBEgovuk unveiled the first wave of their public community energy investment package, which will enable localities to build and control their own clean energy through the rollout of People’s Power projects across the UK 💪

"We know there's a huge appetite among community groups and local authorities to build their own onshore wind and solar projects. It's a win-win all round, as it enables them to take greater control of how we generate power, strengthening our energy security, as well as earning much-needed revenue, and taking practical steps to tackle climate change which hit our country hard this summer.
“The renewable energy industry is working closely with the Government and Great British Energy to maximise these opportunities, and today's announcement builds on the £180 million which onshore wind already generates in business rates for local authorities every year, and the £75 million which we provide each year for community benefit schemes which pay for local priorities chosen by local people. These include skills training, measures to tackle fuel poverty, environmental schemes - and even saving community pubs."
