Proud dad. Resident of Lewiston. Raised in Leeds and trained in the Marines. U.S. Congressman putting Mainers first.

Our first responders do so much for our communities, but the job just keeps getting harder. Maine’s population is aging, and that includes our first responders. If we don’t do something, we’re heading for a workforce crisis that could spiral into a healthcare crisis. We can’t afford that outcome. Along with a bipartisan group of colleagues, I’ve proposed a number of solutions, including the PARA-EMT Act, which would establish a grant program to recruit, train and retain paramedics and EMTs in rural areas. It would also help veterans transition into civilian EMT careers. We need solutions to keep Mainers safe in the future. Congress should act.

While Maine’s home heating prices have risen by 80% year to year, LIHEAP’s funding has increased by less than one percent. With winter on the horizon, I’m urging Congress to plug the gap as soon as possible so that Mainers don’t have to face the cold alone. I’ve joined @RepChrisPappas to request a supplemental $3 billion for LIHEAP, on top of the $4 billion already appropriated.

Dental care is healthcare. Plain and simple. Yet those who served our country, and now live in remote or rural communities, often struggle to access reliable dental care. That’s why I’m teaming up with @RepJackBergman, @Congressman_JVD and @RepDonDavis to help vets who aren’t able to afford or access a dentist get the care they need. I’m confident this first step will do a lot of good.

Thrilled to see nurses at my local hospital, Central Maine Medical Center, vote to unionize. Nurses banding together won’t just mean better working conditions for them, but better care for our community. Unfortunately, 20 nurses were fired or suspended during the union drive. As @chelliepingree and I wrote to Prime Healthcare, the hospital's owner, anti-union retaliation and intimidation are illegal. I call on hospital management to swiftly recognize the union and bargain in good faith. I’m heartened to know that now that they’ve won their union, nurses will begin organizing not only for themselves and their patients, but to reinstate any workers wrongfully punished for exercising their rights. Congratulations again to the nurses in Lewiston on winning their union!

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation endured the deadliest foreign attack on American soil. Today, we hold in our hearts the thousands who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, their families and loved ones. Their memory will not be forgotten. We also honor those who ran toward danger in the wake of the attacks, from the first responders who rushed without question to Lower Manhattan to the generation who answered the call to defend our nation. That day, Americans joined together, resolute in the face of those who brought terror to our shores. As we remember those lost and those forever changed on 9/11, let us also remember that a united America can never be outmatched and that no shadow of fear or terror can dim our spirit.

Last week my bill, the Northeast Lobstermen Protection Act, passed the House in a bipartisan vote. The legislation extends to 2035 a moratorium on new North Atlantic right whale regulations for lobstermen — and prevents these onerous regulations from eroding a way of life on Maine’s coast. Years in the making, this is a major win for Maine lobstermen. Read my reflections on that work in my monthly substack: jaredgolden.substack.com/p/d…

Happy Labor Day, Maine! Mainers believe those who work hard deserve their fair share of the rewards. No more, no less. I’m proud to have played a part in that fight this year — passing bills in the House to overturn an executive order that shredded collective bargaining for federal workers, make it harder for corporations to hold up union contracts, and block costly new regulations that threaten our lobster industry. With the time I have left in Congress, I’ll continue fighting to ensure those who build this country actually share in its success. Solidarity forever.

Great news! The House just passed my bill to protect Maine lobstermen from unnecessary new regulations related to the North Atlantic right whale until 2035. This bill will protect lobstermen so they can keep doing what they do best: Providing for their families and communities, supporting Maine’s economy, and putting nutritious seafood on our plates. I’m grateful to @RepMikeLawler for his partnership on this bill and the bipartisan coalition that passed it in the House. Now, onto the Senate.

Goals worth having are rarely easy. While this might seem like common sense, the Trump Administration announced last week that they’ll be abandoning their goal of prioritizing our national security and industrial base — by shipping production of our naval fleet overseas. Luckily, my bill to block this short sighted scheme has passed the House, and the Senate is poised to do the same. I urge my colleagues in the upper chamber to pass this critical piece of legislation and send it to the President's desk.

91 years ago today, FDR made a promise to Americans — that if you worked hard, you would be able to retire with dignity. Now that promise is at risk of being broken. The Congressional Budget Office predicts that the social security trust fund will be insolvent by 2032. Congress must come together to renew FDR’s promise and keep social security around for another 91 years, and beyond.

All Americans have a right to decide for themselves whether, how and when to grow their families. The Supreme Court recognized the right to contraception in the ‘60s. But after the current court struck down Roe, we can’t take anything for granted. This bill would enshrine the right to contraception in federal law and create a legal framework to enforce that right. I’m proud to join the effort to bring this bill to the floor.

The weight of their sacrifice is measured not only by their final acts of service and heroism, but in the years of life these brave service members gave up when they paid the ultimate price for our country. Today is International Workers Day and I’m celebrating by working to strengthen the collective bargaining process to ensure union workers don’t have to wait to get the fair contracts they deserve. Today, a loophole in federal labor law means that even after workers vote to form a union, the fight’s not over. Companies drag their feet on negotiations, hoping to break the union. On average, it takes 458 days to obtain a first contract. That’s far too long. The Faster Labor Contracts Act would establish clear deadlines for a first contract, and guarantee mediation and binding arbitration if the deadlines aren’t met. That will incentivize good-faith negotiation on a fair timeline. I’m a co-sponsor of this bill and I just signed @DonaldNorcross's Discharge Petition to start the process of forcing the Speaker to give us a vote on the floor. Solidarity Forever.
