My brother and I are researching this disaster.
Here's some notes from our reseaech:
1. Canadian parliament member is reporting a media blackout (grrr)
2. Approx ~5 aircraft appear to be associated with this event.
3. Current reported fire zone is ~2.5mi SE from Wainwright explosives storage. NASA FIRMS shows historical hotspots between current reported burn and explosives storage
4. Local resident reports seeing potentially up to ~150 casualties
5. Wainwright hospital is overwhelmed. Hospital is small, only ~25 beds.
6. Local school is currently being used as a triage center per local civilian
7. Photo evidence of ~5 civilian ambulances, at least 1 ISV, and other military vehicles being used to transport casualties
8. Local trucker reports support convoy heading to Wainwright ~1.5hr ago
Notably:
Edmonton hospitals (all of them) are currently operating between 97-105% capacity prior to incident, meaning the volume of casualties to overwhelm is relatively low (they have total approx 2500 beds). Wainwright would be overwhelmed by ~20+ casualties.
This appears to be an ammunition explosion during a training exercise resulting in a large, rapidly spreading fire that is current burning in a southeastern direction, with multiple agencies responding. There appear to be 100-200 total casualties with limited triage support available, exacerbating the emergency.
Hospitals across Alberta, Canada are reportedly being overwhelmed by the number of injured from the ongoing major fire at CFB Wainwright, the cause and extent of which is still unknown, with details being kept very quiet by the Canadian Ministry of National Defense. Some sources place the number of dead in the dozens with hundreds of injuries, though nothing has been verified by officials in Canada.
