Here’s what we mean:
🚫 DON’T assume consent.
A costume, flirting, dancing, kissing, going home together, silence, or a previous “yes” does not mean yes now. Consent should be clear, freely given, informed, and ongoing. If drugs or alcohol make someone unable to make that decision, sexual activity needs to STOP.
🚫 DON’T mess with someone’s drink.
Never spike a drink, secretly make it stronger, or give someone a substance without their knowledge. And don’t pressure someone to drink more than they want.
🚫 DON’T pressure, isolate, or take advantage of someone.
Wearing someone down, ignoring hesitation, separating an intoxicated person from friends, or using someone’s impairment as an opportunity isn’t consent.
✅ DO ask, listen, and get a clear yes.
Consent is communication. Ask what someone wants. Pay attention to their answer. And keep checking in, because anyone can change their mind at any time.
✅ DO look out for your drink AND your friends.
Keep track of what you’re drinking, stick with people you trust, and check in if a friend suddenly seems much more intoxicated than expected. These steps can reduce risk, but responsibility for sexual violence ALWAYS belongs to the person who causes the harm.
✅ DO step in safely when something isn’t right. You don’t have to confront someone or put yourself in danger. Check in with the person, create a distraction, rally friends or staff, or get help.
‼️ SHARE. If this changes even one person’s behavior, it could save someone else’s life.
