Last week, Simons Foundation president @DavidSpergel spoke about our international partnership with the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and its planned redevelopment for a new energy-efficient facility that will create modern spaces for research, education, events and accommodation.
"We are longtime backers of the ICTP, supporting its place as a haven for physicists from around the world to gather and collaborate," he said. Around 4K scientists from more than 150 countries participate in ICTP activities each year.

In a new @NaturePhysics paper, #FlatironCCQ scientists and collaborators show how superconductivity and the pseudogap wrestle for dominance, challenging the idea that superconductivity in materials called cuprates builds upon a pre-existing pseudogap phase: bit.ly/4yub37O#science#physics
At this month's Presents, filmmaker Penny Lane and Sandbox Films executive director Jessica Harrop explored how Flaco the owl's remarkable life captured our imagination.
They discussed the making of "Wild Inside," from recreating an owl's-eye view of NYC to telling the stories of the people whose lives he touched and our relationship with urban wildlife.

Working out how best to use AI in mathematics research—and in science more generally—will take time, effort, and resources. We’re eager to support mathematicians as they drive scientific progress and define the future of their field.
We’ve committed $5 million of funding, compute, and Claude access to help the math community navigate the massive changes that AI brings. We’re partnering with @SimonsFdn, who will manage the award through a community-driven approach, supporting workshops, conferences, and lectures by domain experts.

How can the math community forge the best path forward in the AI age? We're committing $15M to workshops and initiatives — plus free AI computing resources for foundation-supported researchers — through new partnerships with @AnthropicAI and @OpenAI: bit.ly/4zpfIbW#math#science#AI
We want to support the mathematics community in turning progress in AI into deeper human understanding and new discoveries. To support that goal, we are contributing $5 million to a new Simons Foundation initiative to help mathematicians examine, understand, and build on results produced by AI, including the results we recently published.
The funding, managed and awarded by the @SimonsFdn will support workshops, conferences, and special programs. We will also provide access to our models and computing resources to Simons Foundation-supported researchers.
