Currently 30 and on a journey to be work optional by 40 | Financial Independence Retire Early

It is very reasonable Imagine taking ages 18 until 40 to figure out how to have a high enough income to be able to invest $1,000 a month Then from age 40 until 62.5 you invest that $1,000 a month Boom! Millionaire (assuming the rate of return Boomer did) *But what about inflation Simple, adjust the contribution amounts for inflation
It’s not hard to get to $1M invested with a typical 10% return and compounding. Invest $1K/month and it will take 22.4 years $2k/mo, 16.5 years $3k/mo, 13.4 years $4k/mo, 11.3 years $5k/mo, 9.8 years. It is very doable.

People on here talk about optimizing every last dollar like they are geniuses In reality, having some money off to the side as a buffer is very smart It isn’t about the math it is about providing security. Which is one of the main purposes of money to begin with
I don’t think money in an emergency fund is wasting away. It’s doing its job as a safety net so you don’t have to sell at a bad time if something comes up during a bad time in the market.

This week I got a bag of Rana beef short rib ravioli, a bag of store brand garlic knots and a jar of pasta sauce for like $7 Full meal for both of us (She put the green stuff on it 🤣)
Eating at home is still super affordable if you plan right. Plan recipes to cook and you can eat real well on a slim budget.

Be genuine You'll win that way
So I'm 12 issues of my newsletter in, and what surprised me most is that the issues people connect with most aren’t the ones where I try to sound smart. They’re the ones where I admit something isn’t perfect, like telling readers my own emergency fund isn’t set up the way I’d tell them to set up theirs. Turns out honest beats polished ✏️

Unless you had an unfortunate health issue, you are where you currently are because of the decisions you have made The earlier you accept it (and more importantly learn from those decisions) the more successful you'll eventually be
Truths you may need to hear: - Nobody is stopping you from going to school, getting a trade, or a cert - Nobody is stopping you from learning better financial and social skills - Nobody is stopping you from working out and considering healthy choices Just you

I am going to be so rich in 2055 if we get a lost decade from 2027-2040
🚨 Never forget… Your whole idea of buying every dip through ETF and chill is a 13-year illusion. 100 years of S&P 500 real returns, split into regimes: – 1928-1948: 0.6% a year – 1949-1968: 12.7% – 1969-1984: 0.5% – 1985-1999: 15.1% – 2000-2012: -0.8% – 2013-2025: 11.8% Notice the rhythm. A golden era, then a dead one. Feast, famine, feast, famine. Not one regime in a century simply continued. The long-term average of 7% real that everyone plans with? Almost no generation actually experienced it. You got 12%, or you got zero. The average is a fiction made of two extremes. Everyone who started investing after 2009 has only known the feast. Buy the dip worked every single time. Not because it's a law. Because you happened to live inside the blue bar. But the current run is already as long and as rich as the two golden eras before it. And every one of them ended the same way: not with a warning, with a decade. Mean reversion doesn't announce itself. It just stops paying. The next 0.5% decade will feel impossible right up until it starts. It always has.

I worry about optimizing less now than I did when my net worth was 1% of what it is now There are many lessons I have learned in that

I absolutely love this lol I have thought a lot about how I will let me boss know I'm retiring when the time comes My current thought is that I will use 2 weeks of PTO and ask to schedule my next check in on the day I get back which is when I'll put in my 2 weeks That allows for a pretty easy last month before retirement kicks off
I actually gave my retirement notice in my annual review. I knew I was going to do it (had nothing to do with performance). I let my manager do all her yapping, and then said, "yea, Im not going to do any of those things. This is my retirement notice. Your manager knows" That was 5 years ago next week.

Money will always matter, but we will live in more and more abundance
"Money won't matter in 2036." This is the craziest prediction of our generation. Elon Musk said it, and he believes robotics and AI will lead to so much abundance that money will become obsolete. Is this actually possible?
