Canton Network
The @SECGov now says they view canton-network:native as a digital commodity. The Division of Corporation Finance's no-action letter of 3 Nov covers how canton-network:native is minted and rests on the facts submitted about the network. Huge announcement for the @CantonNetwork ecosystem. Higher.
In case there was ever any doubt. "The Division is of the view that Canton Coin is a “digital commodity”..."

We are thrilled to announce that Morgan Stanley is among the first banks to tokenize real-world assets following the launch of the @The_DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS), converting U.S. Equity and U.S. Treasuries to tokenized form. Launched on October 28, DTS creates tokenized representations of DTC-custodied securities to support greater liquidity, collateral mobility and capital efficiency.

On-chain repo is getting more traction, and DTCC has recently launched its tokenization service for 35 assets to be used as collateral. So, what is repo, and how does on-chain repo work? Repo (repurchase agreement) trading is a short-term, collateral-backed form of borrowing and lending, typically involving government bonds or other high-quality securities. How does it work? At the open, cash moves against collateral in 1 transaction. At the close, collateral moves back against cash loaned + interest. On-chain repo makes the open atomic and the close atomic. Both legs land together in a DvP transaction, or nothing moves.

Institutional-size trades. Private quotes. Atomic settlement. @SwapMonster_ brings request-for-quote trading to Canton, using Daml contracts to exchange assets and payment in one transaction. Sherlock has completed a collaborative audit of its RFQ exchange. ↓

October on Canton: - Uber ran a 24/7 treasury pilot with HSBC tokenized deposits and a Franklin Templeton tokenized money market fund. - DTCC's Tokenization Service went live. - DRW and Marex closed an OTC swap. - Nasdaq's CEO cited a collateral test with Vanguard and Wellington. Cash, securities, derivatives, and collateral, on one network in one month. What's next on Swap Monster?

The Bank of England says its current rules don't stop clearing houses from taking tokenized collateral. The test is whether that collateral can still be valued, moved and sold when markets are under stress. That test comes down to settlement. If an asset changes hands before its payment arrives, someone carries the risk at exactly the wrong moment. On a DvP venue, as Swap Monster, a trade both parties agree to settles in one atomic transaction on Canton: the asset and the cash move together, or neither moves. bankofengland.co.uk/news/202…

Most chains copy every transaction to everyone and add privacy afterwards. Canton went the other way, as @YuvalRooz says here. Each party sees the contracts it is party to. Nobody else sees the terms. That matters most at settlement. A fund can close a large trade with one counterparty, and the size never becomes public information for anyone to trade against.
Most blockchains were built years ago on a root design that replicates data to everyone, so privacy has to be added on as an afterthought. Canton was built the other way, privacy as an inherent property of the chain from the start. @YuvalRooz discusses with @_TalkingTokens.

DTCC's tokenization service is due to launch this month, with Canton one of two networks live on day one. 25 securities to start: Treasuries, ETFs and Russell 1000 names, same CUSIP, moving 24/7 between registered wallets. Moving the security is step one. Settling it against cash in the same transaction is the step we built Swap Monster around.
Take a closer look inside the DTCC Tokenization Service. From supported networks and eligible asset classes to launch capabilities and future expansion, our at-a-glance overview outlines the service and the path ahead. ➡️brnw.ch/21x6t0e

What is @SwapMonster_? A venue for large block trades directly between counterparties on Canton. You choose who gets your request, compare private, firm quotes and approve the trade in your wallet. The asset and payment settle together, or neither settles.

Your quote isn't the market's business. Ask only the counterparties you pick. Your assets stay in your wallet until you accept. Then both legs settle in one transaction. Price at size, without the audience. Dm for an invitation.

Traditional finance is coming on-chain, and Canton is where it's landing. Derivnex just closed the first OTC swap on Canton. @DRWTrading and Marex traded a total return swap on a Kaiko-tokenized S&P iBoxx index. Tokenized repo on Canton now runs at about $9T a month. Repo is moving on-chain fast. By leveraging Canton, institutions get private quotes from counterparties they choose, with cash and collateral settling together, and a market that is open to them 24/7.

Continuous settlement across jurisdictions is not optional for institutions that trade between time zones. @ShaulKfir puts the cost plainly: less friction grows the market and saves real money each year. The friction lives in the gaps: a cutoff in one city, a closed banking day in another. Close those and the savings stop being theoretical. Onchain finance doesn't have days off.
Reducing friction through continuous settlement across jurisdictions can grow the market and save institutions billions per year. That shift will drive the next phase of adoption with new businesses built on top of that market. @ShaulKfir discusses with @LongViewCrypto.

We are happy to see DvP becoming a standard for on-chain atomic settlement. The question is where you will be able to trade privately, without moving the ownership of the underlying asset. Any guesses who supports this already?
Until now, institutions settling onchain have typically relied on bespoke smart contracts. Solana DvP gives them a shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment, with input from J.P. Morgan on securities settlement practices 🧵

On most public chains, a pending trade is visible to everyone before it settles. Canton works differently. Validators or participants only see the transactions they're party to, and there's no public mempool in between. That's why we are building on Canton, and why we are doing the flow on-chain. Canton lets transactions be private and visible only to the counterparties participating in the transaction. A private RFQ only works if competing counterparties never see each other's prices, and on Canton, the ledger underneath supports it.
