‘Enervating’ means the opposite of what @AskDebruge thinks it means.

[Thread] I’ve noticed something odd happening in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. True, there’s plenty of odd things going on in The Shining, but this is really weird. 🧵 1/50

Latest #PartyDown might be the best depiction of people on hallucinogens ever in film or TV. Not even the bigger bits, just the perfect cadence of lines like, "Okay...alright." @KenMarino et al. - you really knew what you were doing.

Unilever @UnileverEA @UnileverUKI - your Kenya branch has been working without ANY Safeguarding Policies - your predatory, rapist managers have been raping women working in the tea estates, driving them into suicide ideation, depression. HOW IS THIS HAPPENING ON YOUR WATCH???

Hmmm. I just had a bizarre experience, involving a global news organisation and a trillion dollar corporation. (I got caught in the middle, so... owch.) It’s not the sort of experience the people involved usually talk about in public… so I think I’ll talk about it in public. 🧵

So true and POW.ER.FUL. Imagine a world where we talked enough about topics Tweeters have noted we don’t talk about enough! Wow. We’d always be talking (enough) about so many things! 🙏🥹
We don’t talk enough about the anticipatory grief of watching your parents age.

🧵This thread is about who I met on January 21st, 2020, while moonlighting as an Uber driver. Jefferson City is a sleepy town on Tuesday nights but I signed into my driving app, knowing that I could always count on a few legislators needing a ride home from the bar. #moleg

White people should probably be required to read White Fragility but barred from mentioning or referencing it in any way.

Oh god, I'd not seen this before. It's heartbreaking. Here's a 2010 Blizzcon panel in which a fan was brave enough to ask a panel full of men, including J. Allen Brack (left) & Alex Afrasiabi (right) whether there's scope for some of WoW's female characters to be less sexualised

Untimely/timeless(?): Last night I watched Broadcast News for the first time in a few decades, so of course I wanted to think about it afterwards, so of course I ended up reading @haleymlotek's magnificent article about the movie. I love this little passage especially:

What’s so sad is that, deep down, @LindseyGrahamSC clearly hates himself - but for the wrong reasons and not enough.
What will we be calling the inevitable wave of smiley-faced envy most of us will experience as we watch a few lucky (or, fine, heroic) friends get access to the first round of COVID vaccines? Best I've got so far is the obvious FOMOI/faux-moi (Fear Of Missing Out On Immunity).
