That may be correct in a vacuum, but the way they got to this ranking makes zero sense.

On an evening when general incompetence by governing bodies is highlighted, the CFP committee really said β€œhold our beer”
The committee banged Notre Dame for a lack of signature wins (or win, singular) No. 4 Indiana's wins: North Texas Howard Western Kentucky Northwestern (29-23) Rutgers Nebraska (20-17) Michigan (13-6 in OT) Minnesota (23-16 in OT)

Beat Stanford by 54. Beat Virginia by 44. Beat Cal by 34 on the road. Beat NC State by 24 on the road. Beat Louisville (on the road) by the same margin that Ole Miss did. But, they lost one singular game to the best team in College Football so they get shoved down to #16 and treated like crap, while 2-loss SEC teams get gifted spots in the Top 5. Unbelievable.

Indiana at 4 while Notre Dame is at 11 (and a 2-loss Texas team in between) took some special accounting.

There are other initial rankings that have been worse in the CFP era, but this one is probably the most nonsensical. They're just bad.

There is no greater honor 🫑
Sometimes I think about how it would feel to be a linebacker on a 4-8 college football team in the MAC. You still have to be inhumanly athletic, you still have to dedicate your life to something bigger, but your greater purpose is being 4-8 in the MAC

A random West Texas truck stop has no idea how infamous it’s about to become
WE HAVE A POSSIBLE COIN FLIP SITUATION IN 4-2A D1 Forsan, Ozona and Christoval all could finish 3-3 and have maxed out on each other with 17 point wins. If form holds this week all three teams are at a net zero..so a coin flip for the last two spots could take place Fri #txhsfb @dctf

OU insider fwiw
I spoke with a former staffer recently about now former Oklahoma Offensive Coordinator Ben Arbuckle. This stood out: β€œHe only cares about QB stats and getting a HC job.” That tells me why he tried to put so much on Mateer. He thought he was his ticket.

For the second time ever, a No. 4 Notre Dame will host a No. 1 Miami. The last time it happened was in 1988 and Notre Dame won 31-30.
