Science is an investment that pays enormous dividends. So if you’re business-minded, it’s an offer you can’t refuse! Here's my full speech from the Stand Up For Science rally in DC today (Link and text below)
I’ve read about half of it and it’s fantastic! Very accessible and pragmatic. If you’re practicing science, you’ve seen a lot of poor study design and it’s great to have simple guides like this available as refreshers.
I often notice that people who move into new areas of research often forget best practices that felt more intuitive in their wheelhouse so it’s not just useful for students learning it for the first time IMO.
Thanks for writing it @Y_Gilad!
From 2006 to 2023, @Y_Gilad taught a course in Functional Genomics. The course evolved significantly over the years. However, throughout these changes, the unit on Effective Study Design remained essentially unchanged. The result? A useful textbook. amazon.com/Intuitive-Primer-…
This is something you can pick up anytime, without feeling like you need to "wait for the right moment" or finish collecting your data first before you have time to learn about study design...
While not a comprehensive guide, the primer focuses on key principles and intuition that are critical for effective genomics study design. It minimizes the use of math and statistics, making the concepts intuitive and - hopefully - accessible to all.
Friends and colleagues, I’ve written a book on effective functional genomics study design, which will be available on Amazon in a couple of weeks. Sharing the TOC to spark interest. I hope students will find it useful! I’ll share updates soon
