It came from the deep(ish) ocean... and then transitioned to a euryhaline lifestyle causing widespread fish-killing blooms in brackish water throughout Texas and Europe... It's Prymnesium parvum and their #PKZILLA s! Now in @ScienceMagazine science.org/doi/10.1126/scie… Thoughts in:🧵

Congratulations to the Brewers — now everyone should go visit Milwaukee because it’s truly a great American city. Eat a fish fry, check out the incredible Milwaukee Art Museum, go to Ally Boy’s bagels, walk along the lakefront, visit Foundations tiki bar in River West.

A person fighting cancer should not also have to become the project manager of their own medical records. We have the tools to help people; we just need to make them widely accessible, and we will.

This election is our last chance to at least rein in some of the foolishness of this Administration. We need real leadership with concrete plans to lower costs, make health care more affordable, make housing more affordable, and get utility bills under control. Let’s do what we can to make @KeishaBottoms the next Governor of Georgia. Let’s go send Jon @Ossoff back to the Senate. And let’s put this country back on the path to a better future.

Hey @RichardAAttard, I love that picture. It was taken a few months after my wife ended her chemotherapy treatments during her battle with cancer. Hey hair was starting to come back, and I think she looks gorgeous here. And yes, I proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community. Thanks

My dad loved neutrinos and spent his life researching them. I remember my friends asking him why he liked neutrinos and he gave a similar answer to Dr Halzin: “It doesn’t affect us at all. We are walking in a sea of neutrinos made by the sun. But you are not aware of it — they don’t interact with your body.” They are not in your body or environment but are important for the universe. I appreciate the people who pursue basic science for the sake of knowledge and the hope of one day understanding the universe🙏 nytimes.com/2026/10/26/style…

Lots of debate this week on whether journals should ban AI in peer review. We actually tested this in our new preprint, and the results were pretty clear to me. For context, I've reviewed for most of the big journals and evaluated 1,000 human reviews as an editor. I love to read and evaluate science. TLDR: From now on I won't do any peer review without AI. For clinical trials, I'd even call human-only review dangerous 🧵

🚨 AI coding agents are about to flood science with irreproducible results—unless we move them out of private laptops and into public glass boxes. Here is the proof from our new study across 48 datasets: 💥 The problem (Private Terminals): We gave 1 published dataset to 30 AI agents. → 29 went off-script into 18 incompatible pipelines → Silently erased a real bacterial toxin gene → Left behind 26 throwaway scripts nobody could verify 🔓 The fix (Public Infrastructure): We wired coding agents directly into @galaxyproject & free national supercomputers—where an agent cannot hide its tracks: 🔎 Caught hidden flaws in published papers: Exposed that a recent Nature agent benchmark accidentally ran on a 1,000-cell demo file instead of the full 5,613-cell atlas (82% of data dropped). Running all cells on Galaxy 3× accuracy. ⚡ Supercomputer discovery at zero cost: • Unified 2,592 malaria surface proteins across 3 continents into 21 shared 3D folds on free public GPUs • Dated 42 pathogen epidemics in seconds instead of days 📄 Preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… 📊 Interactive story: spond.github.io/CV.js/blog/2…

Seeing lots of "Pentagon is raiding NIH funding" takes on this. This is an Economy Act agreement, and NIH is the requesting agency. No funds have yet gone from NIH to DoW. Orders are required to align with NIH’s legal authorities, so the money must serve NIH’s mission. Either side can exit on 180 days’ notice. It's unusually broad, maybe there are questions about paying staff, etc. but this isn't some kind of cash raid. Partnership could help enable next-gen medical countermeasures.

RFKs racist rant against Arabs was despicable. It was personally offensive since Alex Azar and myself —both Arab Americans —were his predecessors. I am proud of my Arab heritage. He is a bigot and a racist.

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans. These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Novel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
