I wrote this morning in the UVA AI Exchange newsletter about Claude Code’s new code modernization plugin, rewrites in #bioinformatics, and the fact that you can just build stuff now aiatuva.substack.com/p/rewri…
Lots of debate this week on whether journals should ban AI in peer review.
We actually tested this in our new preprint, and the results were pretty clear to me.
For context, I've reviewed for most of the big journals and evaluated 1,000 human reviews as an editor. I love to read and evaluate science.
TLDR: From now on I won't do any peer review without AI. For clinical trials, I'd even call human-only review dangerous 🧵

A limited demonstration that AI reviews can do the job of human reviewers at improving papers. Deciding what to publish still needs an accountable editor with human reviewers they trust.
Very good essay. You can read it in 5 minutes. I wrote some of my own thoughts on this over the weekend.
What Counts as Impact? doi.org/10.59350/006jq-a4y25
Some of my thoughts about the surge in AI-generated papers, why this feels like a completely new kind of problem, and what this means for how we evaluate science in biology.
