Post-Sovereign Chief Biomaximizer. Zcash, not communism. If I detect AI responses to my post I will kill myself racistly.

Network
Why Zcash? All of crypto is an open database that is traceable. If you want self sovereign money safe from government overreach and seizure, it also needs to be undetectable. Zcash has the same economic policy as Bitcoin (21m total coins, same halving schedule started later), but it becomes entirely fungible by encrypting the ledger. When you realize that even Satoshi himself can’t use his Bitcoin, the importance of total encryption hits home. I think this gets more important as we face the confluence of 1) USD monetary issues via money printing, inflation and unlimited debt, 2) the rise of communist movements and authoritarian wealth seizures, and 3) the massive increases in AI capabilities leading to more tracking and surveillance When Bitcoin was started in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, the concern over money printing aka “quantitative easing” was just beginning, it was not yet obvious there would be a problem. At the same time, money as system of control was merely an issue for terrorists and murders. Now the theoretical issue has become real as freezing or confiscation of political adversaries becomes more common. Today we face all these pressures at the same time: monetary debasement, political censorship, and hyper surveillance. These were less apparent when Bitcoin was started, and the threat of hyper surveillance was not solved until Zcash forked Bitcoin’s code and made it encrypted Bitcoin. This is why Zcash. Zcash, not communism.

Discussion is good, yet this discussion has been had ad nauseam before you showed up in Zcash. It seems tiring to you, that is because we are tired of having the discussion over and over when it has been clearly unwanted by the community. Shielded Labs team / Zooko has lost support from several waves of newcomers in the past and then they just wait for a new crop of newcomers to bait into supporting their broken scheme. But ok, we will have this discussion again. This time loudly and publicly. And put it to bed finally.
Agree. 1/ Discussion is good. The only way Zcash wins is through discussion. Crosslink could be a terrible idea but calling the very discussion of it an attack or a risk is closed minded and fragile. FWIW I do think a random tweet about Crosslink from the Zcash handle was provocative and maybe unnecessary but I'm glad for the conversation it's prompting. Below are why I'm particularly concerned about shutting down security conversations early. 2/ The "encrypted Bitcoin" narrative only works if Zcash can get the hashrate. After my deep dives into PoUW hashrate economics I do not think this will happen. The economics aren't there. Pearl is at least 20x as capital efficient and it's PoW. Yes Pearl is early but try to understand it. It also may be the first of many PoUW chains. I am not the only person who thinks this BTW. It's just a blind spot for many because PoUW is so new and poorly understood. 3/ If my concerns in 2 materialize then Zcash best move is to lean into an alternative security model from PoW or to find an alternative work based algorithm with better economics for miners. 4/ Both 2 and 3 might be obsolete arguments if there's a fast move toward market share from Zcash. Sometimes the best tech doesn't win because of network effects. But I think that's harder without going directly for small quick transaction use cases with extreme haste. I don't think Zcash is on a path to replace Visa faster than Pearl or other PoUW can decisively outcompete Zcash on security. Finally, I'm sorry but I'm not here to engage in a deep conversation about this today. The conversations I've seen so far are tiring and impolite. I'll talk to people about it at Zcon and can answer questions later. Most of the information is already public on my profile.

This is a proposal, and proposals are welcome and should be surfaced and debated. Best ideas win. This one doesn’t have the broad support needed to make a consensus change. I also don’t believe it’s good for Zcash. Background: here is the initial rationale for considering a move to PoS by ECC back in 2021. zodl.com/should-zcash-switch… Crosslink (then TFL) was originally intended as a first step toward that transition. zodl.com/the-trailing-finali… When I returned to ECC as CEO, I stopped our work on it as I believed it was a distraction and wasn’t necessary for mass adoption. Shielded Labs then picked it up. Adding a staking layer adds protocol complexity and new security assumptions. The finality gain doesn't warrant the risk. Zcash should stay on Nakamoto consensus.
Crosslink is a proposed hybrid PoW/PoS upgrade for Zcash. By standardizing staking bonds into incremental powers of 10, observers are prevented from easily inferring individual staking patterns, preserving privacy and maintaining accountability among finalizers.

AI thinks my stupidest ideas are exploring non-linear possibilities. It’s literally a midwit.
I don’t think it’s that stupid! I lost out on a house and felt bad about it, so I threw a Hail Mary: offered the winning bidders cash to back out and the sellers more money to take my offer! It didn’t work. The listing agent had no interest in my shenanigans.

AI is going to explain why money needs the smallest attack surface possible
I’ve exited all DeFi positions for the foreseeable future. Zcash has some of the most talented developers in crypto, and they still missed a critical vulnerability that sat unnoticed for nearly four years until it was recently discovered with the help of Claude. If a team of that caliber can miss something that significant for that long, it’s hard for me to believe other protocols aren’t sitting on similar undiscovered issues. The incentives for attackers are simply too large.

People are saying
Crypto has two years before the US government will hunt us down, target us, jail us and even kill us. Before the evil eye turns its cold gaze towards the people building a free anonymous p2p future. Why? The global order is disintegrating. The US people will see a drop in their living standard. This will breed resentment and radicalization in politics. Crypto will become the easiest scapegoat for the incoming democrat government in two years. There will be intense lawfare the likes we have never seen before. This will radicalize crypto and be the start of a new crypto wars which we will win. Change is not gradual but sudden. Things compound & accelerate. Lenin said there are decades where weeks happens, and weeks when decades happen. We are entering an inflection point when the political, economic, and technological order will change faster and faster. The next two years will define the future of anonymity, free speech and sovereignty. 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 The US offers security to rich arab oil states in exchange for them backing the US dollar. This arrangement is called the petrodollar system. It is why the dollar is the most powerful currency in the world. The Iran war has been a disaster for the US. It has been unable to protect its bases and is forced to move out of the middle east. It is locked in an unwinnable conflict. The US cannot guarantee protection for its arab friends. This will severely harm the petrodollar system. These costs won't be passed onto elites but to common working people in the US. Saudi, Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi are forming a confederation to guarantee their own security - a signal of the failing US led order. Their plans include extensive transport and energy networks which bypass and sideline Israel. Israel which is a western colony in the middle east has become a pariah state even by formerly close US allies. Saudi asked the US for help with the Houthis in Yemen but the US refused. Since the US is unable to guarantee security, China will fill the vacuum. China is friends with Iran and can get security guarantees from Iran. At home, the economic consequences of declining American influence will not be distributed equally. The costs of geopolitical upheaval and economic restructuring will fall on ordinary people. Political priorities will shift to economic insecurity, inequality, and the environment. The tech elite might retain substantial resources and influence, but the broader population will face a difficult economy. These pressures will breed resentment and radicalize US politics with economically populist democrats like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez coming to power in the 2028 elections likely winning the presidency. Crypto will be the easiest and most convenient scapegoat for populist democrat rhetoric. Key core issues will be economy and environment. Crypto is unpopular with a perception of being linked to fraud, extraction, tax avoidance, speculation and Trump. All easy targets for populist democrat politicians seeking power. The existing lawfare operation against cypherpunk agorists will intensify to levels we have never seen before. I have been targeted by this. Deported from 2 countries this year, detained by police and questioned in 4 other countries and taken to a room by a police squad asked to sign a document without being able to talk with my lawyer. I'm not unique either. The most radical in crypto suddenly find themselves "under investigation" or charged with money laundering: @raythewarchief @rogerkver @rstormsf And this lawfare won't be limited to just cypherpunks and cryptobros but more widely directed against rich tech elites. For this reason they have been investing in network states - making deals with foreign governments to have their own enclaves to operate from. The risk from western states is simply becoming too great and they are diversifying out of the US in anticipation of a regulatory & legal war.

Claude was trained on the Zcash effort to formally verify its zk-circuits. Now it’s even better at formal verification than ever!
New on our Frontier Red Team blog: using Claude to formally verify software at large scale. Formal verification can prove that code is free of certain bugs, but historically it has only been feasible for small codebases (or required a lot of expert time). With AI models, however, this is beginning to change. In collaboration with @theoremlabs, we used Claude to prove security properties in over one hundred real-world open-source libraries over the span of a few weeks. Cryptocurrency and Zcash went through “bugpocalypse” this spring. It was an intense ~3 months or so. A lot of hacks. A lot of critical security patches. You’ll notice that there were no big crypto hacks this week while web2 melts down. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
as bad as things have gotten in the past 4 days, they are going to get a lot worse before they get better. security leaders, never let a crisis go to waste: please go to your boards and ask for help right now. not for ai, for the basics. (we need to hold on for ~18 months.)

This might be the largest public data set of human health records now? Could be very exciting for training open source AI models.
Quest Diagnostics has been hacked. Patient data was exposed. They serve roughly half of U.S. hospitals and physicians. Investigation ongoing.

If only there were some sort of cryptography a user could employ to sign authorized actions…
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/10/22/ai-agen…
