We can't make climate progress w the same old playbook. We need a green economic populism that brings immediate, material benefits to the working class—tackling both carbon and the cost-of-living crisis. We can start local rn. Thrilled to share my NYT op-ed w @triofrancos!

AI is stuttering. To power the US economy long-term, it’s Green New deal or bust.

The fundamental issue that climate hushers are missing is that the economy needs a steady engine. AI’s not it. That only leaves on option: joint investments in prosuctive green infrastructure, urban devt (housing & transit), and care. Aka, the GND 2.0.

The fiscal constraints ahead don’t change any of this. We wont get a huge big bang of spending; we’ll have to prioritize. Still, the best available agenda for that is GND.

An anti-rent control YIMBY got booted as mayor of Providence, RI because he was perfectly happy doing streamlining for developers but couldn't support rent control for tenants. He was humiliated by being chucked out in the primary - first to ever do it 👋🏻 cnn.com/2026/10/25/business/…

It's important to understand the housing supply crisis for what it actually is: a shortage of homes that tenants can actually afford. Right now, America is short 7.1 million of those units. This is not primarily a story of under-production, but of under-regulation...

Billionaires pay very little tax relative to their ability to pay – your patron Peter Thiel, Mr @tylercowen , is well positioned to know that.
ICE is hunting down immigrants with the help of Palantir. In six months, Palantir’s founder, @PeterThiel, will be able to start spending unimaginable sums of money —completely tax-free — to bankroll the political causes dear to his heart. He'll be able to do it thanks to a tax-avoidance scheme he’s been building for more than 20 years, at a staggering cost to the American taxpayer. Let me explain. 🧵

This is my fundamental objection to @TheArgumentMag and Abundance more broadly. Getting in bed with these guys is bad news. It is insulting to be swimming in this money and lecturing people about democracy.

Brazilians have reportedly been spending 6.5% more on staple foods since sports betting was banned in the country. A month ago, Lula signed an order banning fixed-odds sports betting, a move he said was designed to tackle the problem of families falling into debt. Now the President of the Brazilian Supermarket Association says that since the ban, sales of essential foods such as rice, oil, coffee, and noodles have grown by 6.5%.

The right has won 11 of the last 16 presidential elections in Latin America. #Brazil now joins #Mexico, Uruguay & Guatemala as the exceptions. Many runoffs pitted two political extremes and were won by a whisker: Colombia and Honduras by under a point, Peru by under 50,000 votes.

This book is as good as they’re saying, and then some. Historically illuminating, intellectually rigorous, gripping. Well done @IsabellaMWeber The best argument for why books matter is ones like this. A level of sustained argument you can’t do elsewhere.

Vance on El-Sayed: We have to understand what happens when our nation gives into these kinds of people with zero attachment to its land or to its history. What we saw in France, the hatred, the ingratitude, the desire to destroy rather than a desire to build, that exact same cancer that has corrupted El-Sayed.
