New surprising result: We trained AI recursively on its own safe generations, while giving it a benign cue. Models became increasingly misaligned over time, giving advice on how to do harm and build biological weapons. We call this Progressive Misalignment. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡

Seeing is an act in itself. We look at what matters, and so should robots! EyeRobot 2.0 does this with gaze, enabling precise manipulation without wrist cameras. Key for tool use, where the tool can block a wrist camera! Co-led by @justkerrding who'll be on the job market! Hire him :)
Almost all bimanual robots include wrist cameras. They add bulk, cost, and complexity, but are critical for performance. Are they really needed? Excited to finally share EyeRobot 2.0, where we use active gaze from an ego stereo camera instead ๐Ÿงต (with @kushtimusprime)

As agents perform AutoResearch they get fixated on their old ideas and do only incremental innovations. We introduce a simple context management trick that forces the agents to forget everything they have done except the best solution they have found so far. This simple modification in context management allows the agents to get out of their idea basins and come up with more novel solutions. Closely related to the work 'Fork and Flush' and 'Idea-basins' that @DimitrisPapail posted a few days ago.
Autoresearch with coding agents can now run for days on a single problem, but we've seen an increasing number of cases where they stop improving early. We address this issue with a simple idea: forgetting. Introducing our new paper: "Scaling Discovery Requires Forgetting"

Slow evaluations are a major bottleneck in AI-driven systems optimization. DuoDiscover addresses this by having agents generate fast evaluation proxies (โ€œyardsticksโ€) alongside the code. The result: a 2.68ร— speedup for TPU kernels and a 1.92ร— speedup for vLLM serving!

So excited to release DuoDiscover! I worked on it over the summer for my internship @Google with some awesome collaborators. We got some amazing results on open source benchmarks and internal tasks! Such a cool collaboration between @googlecloud @berkeley_ai @StanfordAILab
AI is cracking math problems. What's holding it back in engineering? The cost of evaluation. Agents can generate ideas in seconds, but testing them can take hours or days. ๐Ÿ’ก Meet DuoDiscover: where evaluation is part of what agents discover ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿงต Some highlights: ๐Ÿ† #1 on NVIDIA's SOL-ExecBench ๐Ÿ 2ร— the experts on SWE-fficiency ๐Ÿš€ 1.92ร— on vLLM; 1.44ร— on FreeToken ๐Ÿ”ฅ 2.68ร— over production TPU kernels ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Beats the best human and AI-designed CPU prefetchers

ALT Alt text: Animated explainer. Opens with the DuoDiscover title card, authors and institutions. The task: make a big codebase run faster. Shows why true evaluations are slow, about 85 minutes for vLLM, then DuoDiscover's three mechanisms. Mechanism 1, co-discover a target and its yardstick: an agent picks what to optimize and builds a yardstick, a fast proxy evaluator that scores edits in seconds. Mechanism 2, keep the yardstick honest: a drifting yardstick is caught by a fidelity test and invalidated. Mechanism 3, scale as a bottom-up fleet: agents each pick their own target while a lightweight orchestrator spawns, terminates, briefs and seeds agents with confirmed work. Ends with results highlights, the DuoDiscover logo and a QR code linking to the paper, with Google, UC Berkeley and Stanford.
