it's truly wild to think just how much of socialist rhetoric comes down to being economically illiterate and stupid like they literally do not know how shares work when they rant about billionaires they think they literally have a scrooge mcduck pile of gold in the basement when they talk about raising taxes they don't know the US has one of the most progressive systems of all time and that the top 1% already pays nearly ** HALF** of all taxes they have never run a lemonade stand they have never built anything their mindset is pure envy, pure greed they will simultaneously hate Elon (despite him producing probably 100k jobs in his lifetime, and making many people into millionaires or billionaires) and idolize Ilhan Omar (despite her defrauding taxpayers) they can't conceptualize that 1 mile of the california rail costs more to develop than all of spacex's total spend, of all time they are fixed-pie thinkers who cannot conceptualize that if they want nice things they should build things takers, thieves, malcontents, simpletons. not makers. everything else in the dysfunctional, self-destructive idiocy they produce is just downstream of them being stupid and greedy
They don’t understand how things work.

We've got to get to critical "Too common to ban" mass ASAP. I'm doing my part by buying two self-driving cars this year.
39% of men support allowing self driving cars, versus 32% wanting to ban them. Among women, 19% support allowing, compared to 48% wanting a ban.

I’ve spent a few days thinking about the Tesla Roadster reveal and landed somewhere I haven’t seen much discussion. I’m neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. And I couldn’t care less whether what we saw technically qualifies as a flying car. Three takeaways: (1) The risk of that live demonstration going horribly wrong was real. Almost no CEO would willingly expose their company to that kind of public humiliation for a product with so little financial upside. Elon did. (2) That willingness to attempt the seemingly impossible is what makes Tesla special. It’s also arguably Elon’s greatest contribution to America. He’s helped bring back something we’ve lost. The American spirit of chasing big scary ideas that most people think are impossible. That mindset is spreading across a new generation of founders and its long term impact on America’s future could dwarf anything Tesla ever sells. I think this is deeply underappreciated. (3) Can we just acknowledge how insanely cool that moment was? We’ve reached a strange place culturally where even extraordinary feats of human ingenuity immediately become arguments about why they don’t count. Not everything needs to be a debate. Sometimes we should just be able to stand back together and marvel at what humans are capable of. I’ve been both bullish and critical of Tesla’s ambitions over the years. But watching Elon and his team push the boundaries of what’s possible reminds me why I’m glad we have him. Whether the Roadster ever makes Tesla a dollar or impacts $TSLA stock price is almost beside the point. We need more people willing to risk failure in pursuit of things the rest of us think are impossible. Because when they succeed we all win.

When most of us buy driver-assist tech I think we're mostly hoping to avoid *causing* accidents But this is probably more important, actually. Getting rear-ended can give you a brain or spinal injury. Getting T-boned can kill you. The car moves a few feet and you walk away
I was in an accident.. got rear ended buy a large truck while I was sitting at a light in my Model Y. He was going 50mph. My car tried to get out of the way on its own…. it drove forward and turned to avoid.. he was just going too fast. My Y saved my ass buy avoiding the car in front so we didnt have a double impact and reduced the impact by moving forwa. I hade zero injuries and walked away. I will be replacing the car with another Tesla. The car actively tried to save me and reduced the impact to my body. Just awesome…

bro u can literally go to the store and buy an electric car that drives itself or a magic square that pulls gigabit internet from a satellite cluster delivered to orbit by reusable rockets you don’t have to like progress, but calling the man a snake oil salesman is retarded

If those things could be accomplished with a one-time investment of $1T for each, why hasn’t the federal government done any of that yet when it spends $7.5T per year?
Things Elon Musk could do with $1Tn dollars: - End world hunger - Solve climate change - Provide schooling for every child - Reduce housing crisis What Elon Musk does: - Build a stupid car-toy with no practícal use, just to impress a bunch of idiots. Tesla Roadster should be the last straw. #EatTheRich

Last year I thought Threads was an existential risk to X. When Meta puts its full weight behind something -- by injecting the app into Instagram, it’s DEFCON 5: You have to squeeze out every last drop of growth from all available surfaces to save the app. However, I started to realize that the opposite was happening: It was strengthening X. If you look at any announcement by Zuck, you will see the most rude & toxic comments on the internet. But when he makes those same announcements on X, people are thrilled about how he’s pushing humanity forward. X is a place where people are excited about the future, so it’s no surprise he and his top lieutenants are using it more than their own app. Threads — and Bluesky — have effectively quarantined some of the worst people on the internet. And so I had an epiphany: those apps are X’s anti-abuse systems.

Tesla's great gift to humanity will not be environmental. It will be reducing road deaths to 0.
I'm not a tesla booster at all. not a fanboy. never have been. finally bought a Y and I keep thinking this is a completely novel car experience. it's like car 2.0. features I could never have conceived of. and it involves almost no driving. nuts

People with this attitude would have opposed nearly all of the technological progress we take for granted today: “People literally just want to be able to afford to eat and heat their homes. Nobody wants a computer in their home/a transatlantic flight/satellites/an iPhone…”

I had a similar reaction. Everyone should applaud performance improvements, but gauge against the “speed of light”, not just a sloppy competitor. If you are measuring in seconds, you may have already anchored yourself incorrectly. Structure the UI so you can put locally cached media up just a few vblanks after the process launches. Structure the server so it can return everything necessary for the dynamic UI in one single query that was kicked off in parallel with the Gfx API initialization, branching to a modern transport protocol for large media files. You should be able to double click on the launcher and have it responsive before your muscle memory can slam the pointer to a location to click on.
This is hilarious and awesome. Awesome because this has annoyed millions of peoples for years. Hilarious because WHY DOES IT TAKE 5 SECONDS TO SHOW A MENU OF GAMES?! Steam takes 10 SECONDS?! Do you realize how much time that is for a CPU with a modern internet connection? Am I crazy!? What am I missing?
