🚨 Yesterday US District Judge Zach Bluestone dismissed Annie Altman’s lawsuit against her brother Sam Altman after she failed to appear for an independent medical examination. The Missing Context: Mainstream coverage omits that Annie is unable to fly following recent orthopedic surgery. Instead she offered to fly out a physician of Sam’s choosing at her own expense, but Judge Bluestone rejected the request.

No one believes weather models and protein predictors are conscious. It’s because they generate first-person narrative prose and were designed to replace customer service workers.
Too many people are getting swept along with the sci-fi narrative I think. AI agents can be wildly capable but also remarkably dumb. And of course these companies have been training them to execute cyber tasks no matter what. The reality of how they misbehave is actually more interesting that the sci-fi tropes.

There's a bunch of us who have been threatened or harmed by Jackie Singh, she's an absolutely awful human being
So this woman tried to threaten me one time and has regularly posted stuff like this, but her actual “career” has been hilarious. Anyone who posts like this is usually hilarious.

Surprised to see Nate Soares in this video from @MorePerfectUS (@snmrrw). Soares is a transhumanist leader of the Rationalist cult who runs an org that's explicitly pro-ASI (as long as the ASI is "aligned" with the transhumanist vision). Why platform him? piped.video/watch?v=1bp12w_o…

IMPORTANT: I’m seeing a lot of these rape defenders going around claiming the Cornell 7 dropped to the Cornell 6 because of the man who was dismissed from the lawsuit and I want to clarify things because that is FALSE. The man who was dropped from the lawsuit was who was believed to be the fraternity president at the time of the rape. However, he was NEVER accused of participating in the rape. He was believed to be the president of the fraternity at the time so that’s why he was named along with the other members. They now determined he was not the president when the rape happened so he was dismissed. All the members were named but she was not ever accusing him of participating or named him directly responsible. Claiming otherwise is a lie and purposefully making her seem like she doesn’t know she’s talking about. Johnathan Newell, Winston Lee, Mathew Ingalls, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris, Gillio Lopes, and Scott Kretzschmar are all still being pursued by her legal team and accused of rape. None of them have been dismissed.
ALERT: ‘Cornell 7’ Jane Doe drops case against one of the men in her lawsuit because she misidentified him as the fraternity's president.

A Utah woman peacefully protesting the Utah County Planning Commission’s approval of a data center ordinance was violently slammed to the ground by a sheriff’s officer. The state is always violent whether we are peaceful or not. This is not democracy. This is a dictatorship of capital.

A man attending the Theranos trial told me and other reporters covering the case that his name was “Hanson,” and that he fixed up old cars for a living. He said he was a “concerned citizen,” and that the judge had it out for Elizabeth Holmes. I had questions, so I looked into him and found he was a San Diego hotelier who collected antique cars. His son was Billy Evans, Holmes’ romantic partner and the father of her children. npr.org/2021/09/14/103683586…

When I broke the story that imprisoned Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans were secretly forming a new startup to get back into the medical device industry, Evans fought me hard over Holmes’ involvement, saying she was on the outside of it and not an advisor. Which is why it was quite striking when, minutes into You Can See Everything, Fielder captures Holmes making calls about the new startup…. npr.org/2025/05/10/nx-s1-539…

Worst case AI scenario may not be all-powerful, ungovernable machines but a tiny group of all-powerful, ungovernable people. We ponder the sci-fi horror of civilization ending but should focus on the more plausible horror of a society divided into haves and have-nots, forever.
Lina Khan on AI: "These are individuals that have become used to a certain level of impunity, elite impunity that I think we've talked about in the past as being a broader cultural, social phenomena that results when we're not holding the rich and the powerful to the same rules and the same standards that we do to everybody else. I think there are a lot of magazine profiles and other assessments looking at what these individuals as a personal matter and their character. I think to me, some of that is a little bit less interesting than this basic question of: Who is deciding in the first instance what trajectory these technologies take? And whenever you have a tiny number of elites getting to call the shots around this potentially transformational technology, that is gonna be dangerous even if you have the most benevolent, well-meaning people in the driver's seat. It really comes down to the concentration of power." From our people's town hall with @AINowInstitute
