Loans backed by GPUs run 5 to 6 years, but the chips may actually may be worth running for a lot longer. Lenders are pricing in that wear-out risk. Who would you trust? Those that look at spreadsheets looking back, or the company making these GPUS and the kernels for them?
From the WSJ, and further to earlier posts: "For years, the companies behind America’s artificial-intelligence boom have raised hundreds of billions of dollars with ease. Wall Street eagerly ponied up capital and asked few questions. Now, the balance of power is shifting. Lenders and investors are getting choosier about where to place their bets and are demanding tougher terms, signaling a new phase in the AI build-out." #economy #tech #ai @WSJ #ArtificialIntelligence #markets

They're trying to squeeze them out. Also, our operating systems are going to narc on us. Even some of the Linux distributions are fully cooperating, and the ones that aren't are having to figure out how to back compromising code out they didn't know about. This was planned a while ago.

yeah, no surprise here: Apple is the antithesis of the rest of the AI industry and they are not asking you remove the device DRAM in order to put into the datacenter! 🤣
BREAKING: Apple is now the world's largest company with a market cap of $5.03 TRILLION. The Big Tech company spending the least on AI is now worth more than every one of them.

I don’t believe it, but will be surprised if it isn’t in the offing sometime
They're coming for your GPUs. As an AI researcher working at one of the big 3 labs, we've been given the "talk" and are preparing to see possible regulatory crackdown regarding open source models and consumer GPUs. As we approach our release of an AGI model in 2027 to the public.

Anthropic's daily code changes reportedly went from 2,500 to over 30,000. When code grows faster than anyone can review it, there's more to attack, so demand for security goes up, not down. MOst importantly, demand for Verified code with proof and certificates goes up faster

Whether a theft can be reversed is an economic question. It is not a technical one. Banks have settlement windows and other banks to coordinate with, and FDIC/CBs etc. crypto settles instantly, so all the security spending has to happen before the theft.
Wait until he finds out that North Korean hackers actually went after banks before moving to crypto. They looted the Bangladesh Central Bank for $1 billion. The transfer got caught and reversed because the street address of the bank they tried to wire the money to had the same name as a sanction Iranian oil tanker, and OFAC sanctions basically run on RegEx, so they accidentally froze the transfer for sanctions evasion.

Sam Altman says the RAM in your PC is "quite terrible" because it sits idle 95% of the time. By that logic your car, your kitchen, and your fire extinguisher are terrible too. "Utilization" is a landlord's metric. Owners want optionality, privacy, no rate limits, no one deciding what you're allowed to run. One of the biggest buyers of DRAM wafers wants you to rent instead of own. Scum

Fun fact: the country with the most affordable groceries is the country with the most rocket launches and the most billionaires.
Why do billionaires build space rockets instead affordable community grocery stores?

The most obvious bet. What matters going forward is who can capture the most value sustainably.

Friday's tech selloff isn't the market saying AI doesn't work (OFC some fools like @edzitron say that). The market is asking who pays for it. Amazon and Alphabet got punished for capex. Intel dropped 29%. Lenders are nervous. The real mechanism: hyperscalers spend the capex, users capture the surplus, and the margin goes to whoever owns the scarce input. Right now that's memory and power, not models. And integrators (data centers) nitter.siddz.com/elerianm/status/211648…

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

Everyone's posting screenshots of 10 agents running overnight. The only metric I trust after 12 months of building with agents: number of merged changes a human would have approved, per dollar of compute. Not tokens. Not diff size. Not hours of "autonomy." The rest is expensive noise.
