Facinating :)
A fun chat with with Jacob Baskin about software architecture, mechanism design, and systems design.

We have entered the "so what?" part of the conversation about the AI(LLM) bubble - everyone, no expections, understand that there is a bubble - noone seems to have an answer to the "so what?" that follows.

What if we simulated a simulation? Inorder to train a digital "twin" that can then be prepared for the real world... also we can do this without actually "simulating" the simulation. piped.video/watch?v=_2NijXqB…

I believe most people would assume the Raptor1 was the best, most efficient, most powerful version of the raptor engines, if they were presented with the engines without context. Often Complexity sells better.
Elon and Steve Jobs are both famous for pushing people to simplify their designs. I don't think this is a coincidence. Large organizations naturally generate complexity, but if you have a CEO who hates it, this tendency is kept in check.

Interesting breakdown
How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia? I'll show you. 🧵

My first order evaluation of a company has always been: 1. Signup for the product, 2. Reach out to support. That experience tells me a lot about how the company is being run.
Every CEO should sign up and onboard with their product or service at least once a quarter to make sure everything still works

What if? "in 3 months 90% of code will be written by AI" is true becaurse increase in AI generated code, and NOT becaurse decrease in code generated by humans? #aicode #LLM #GenAI #thinkaboutit

... did machines become able to do "most" of the work man did in 1952?

LLMs for coding are just non-deterministic compilers from natural language to programming language. And if you argue that this is what Programming actually is you are the kind of person who's gonna be replaced by them, congratulations.

I really like LLMs. They are not gonna replace programmers and it's actually super obvious to anybody who has done any deep serious software development over long period of time. But they scare away the kind of people who should've not been getting into it in the first place.

I wonder if we all caught up on news and podcasts over the weekend...
It seems like there are a lot of incidents where the visible market reaction to some event (DeepSeek's release, Covid etc.) happens later than it intuitively feels like it should have. Is there any literature on why/when certain news events *break through* so to speak?

It's interesting how intuition can conflict with reality. The Dallas Fed seems to believe that energy prices are too low.
The commentary in the Dallas Fed quarterly energy survey is interesting. There's optimism about deregulation of the industry in the new administration, but it's clear that the big risk is weak pricing, and dereg doesn't do anything to help that.

I rewatched @tsoding's video "Json parse in Haskell" recently, and, to my knowledge it is the best introduction to Haskell (piped.video/watch?v=N9RUqGYu…)
Live Programming content is more valuable than just Tech Yapping, because while you just yap about your anecdotes, in Actual Live Coding you literally encounter them and can discuss them on the spot without loosing any context.

People who specialize on certain 3rd party libraries but unable to use the core language genuinely scare me.
