basically everyone is confused about whether they’re trying to obtain an outcome in the real world, or whether they’re just trying to feel better in a roundabout way

if you’re trying to control the outcome in the real world, then some of those reactions make sense, but not most of them

when something goes wrong adults will start figuring out who’s at fault, whether they made a mistake, how to prevent it from happening again, what it means about them, what other people will think. a child will just cry

I think what matters in life is not really goals, skill, or even effort, but the patience and attentiveness that allows the world to surprise you

What really stuck with me is how, at the end, he says that he is glad that he learned to play Go and is grateful for what it has taught him

my experience is that the simulacrum is created by the grasping bc if you don't grasp then any outcome is okay so you don't need to model anything

yeah, mine is entirely about imagination. each unit of my practice is a shift in attitude conducted through an imaginary scene

yeah the frustration is something to dissolve, though I haven't gotten around to it yet. the whole desire to have any other person understand or experience or believe anything is "food"

imagine that you live in a hunter-gatherer society. everybody else has structured their entire lives around food, and the whole society and tradition is basically about acquiring food. you, on the other hand, don't experience hunger
