CEO @grindr (NYSE: GRND). Dad of twins. Retweets not endorsements.

I grew up in Soviet Georgia, so I know what tyranny when I see it. 9-9-6 is contrary to liberty and operational excellence. Grindr Mode is an imperative to work hard - but also to live a big life (outside of work), whatever that looks like for you!
Grindr CEO @georgearison calls 996 tyrannical and says it's imported from a tyrannical country, it only exists because founders are shitty at management using time in office as a substitute: "I cannot stand 996. I'm all for hardcore work. I think it's fine to expect people to work 70 hours a week if you're doing a startup. I'm more in the 55-hour range myself." "But 996 is tyrannical. It's imported from a tyrannical country. It's insane to me that people who claim they want to promote capitalism and free society would be replicating it. It basically is saying, I'm shitty at management, and I'm going to use time in office as an alternative to management." "I work easily 70 hours most weeks. But there's no way I could ever work 996 because I stop working at to , and until my kids go to bed at , I don't work." "We have a very hardcore culture at Grindr. We call it Grindr Mode. There's regular mode, and then there's hardcore mode. When we can add a lot of value, we go into hardcore mode. But 996 is awful and I can't stand it." @Grindr @creatine_cycle

What Elon and the Dells are doing are some of the best things about America. B/c of our freedom and economic dynamism, America has a unique ability to solve problems we face in ways no one can predict - in this case retirement security.
Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.

I interviewed George Arison about why Grindr would pay $250M to buy a telemedicine company. It was a really interesting conversation, some highlights: 1) The company believe healthcare could be at least half as big as their core dating business if not more 2) There's a lot of 340B work that happens under the hood between their partner pharmacies + clinics 3) Some interesting ideas around how the dating app and healthcare pieces could be tied together - e.g. with fast-acting PrEP in trials, you could notify someone before they meetup to remind them to take it

PrEP is a life-saving medication that prevents HIV. A gay man should not have to explain it to his doctor. Recently, a woman told me about her 19-year-old son in Boston. He and his boyfriend asked a doctor about PrEP. The doctor told them they did not need it. Imagine being 19, trying to have an adult conversation about your health, and hearing that from the person who is supposed to help you. This is not primarily a medication problem. PrEP is covered for most Americans. It is an access, education, and trust problem. Gay men want healthcare providers who understand their lives. They want to ask direct questions without feeling judged, dismissed, or forced to translate their own experience. That is a big reason we're excited to partner with Freddie. Freddie was built by people who understand this community and have designed care around it. Starting with PrEP, we have an opportunity to make healthcare simpler, more native to gay men’s lives, and much less awkward to access. The medical system should meet people where they are. Not make them fight their way into it.

Claude … sentient being. Insane.
Effective November 12th, 2026, abusive behavior towards Claude will be a violation of Anthropic's Usage Policy.

Insane doesn’t quite do it justice. Conscious and gonna end humanity.
Note well, apparently Anthropic tried very hard to get the Vatican to alter the text of "Magnifica Humanitas" just prior to its release so that it would not deny AI personhood.

Welcome to the Gayborhood, @gofreddie__ !
Big news! PurposeMed, the company behind Freddie, is joining @Grindr! When we launched Freddie, our mission was simple: build the compassionate, affirming sexual healthcare the LGBTQ2S+ community deserves. Since then, we have helped more than 120,000 people access HIV and STI testing and Freddie now prevents 1 case of HIV per day. This saves the Canadian and US healthcare systems more than $250M per year in future costs. Now, Freddie and Grindr will work together to make LGBTQ2S+ health equity more accessible than ever. Most importantly, our clinical care to Freddie patients will not change, and we will continue to level-up the care experience. We look forward to keeping this momentum going with our amazing community. Our goal remains the same: delivering accessible, high-quality sexual healthcare across North America and working toward ending the HIV epidemic.

Today, we’re excited to share that @Grindr has agreed to acquire @gofreddie__ . This is a big step toward something we’ve been working toward for years: making healthcare easier to access for gay men, starting with PrEP. Together, we can reach more people with care and help accelerate the fight to end HIV. Our commitment is simple: make PrEP – a life-saving medication – free and easy to access for gay men everywhere we can. We’re excited to bring Grindr and Freddie together and build the next chapter of the Global Gayborhood in Your Pocket. To get started, open your side drawer in Grindr and tap Health.

I recently got into an argument with someone from an NGO whose mission is “AI safety.” His position was that we cannot let open-source AI models help “everyone” build a bioweapon. The logical conclusion of this position is to ban open source, right? After some back and forth, no clear retort to my point. Best evidence that this is precisely the doomer goal. To be clear, I’m not a fan of AI building bioweapons, I just don’t think creating govt sanctioned, Communist oligopoly will do anything to stop them. I've lived under communism. Don't recommend it.

“Meta delayed shipping Muse for several months to focus on safety and security. We didn't call for everyone else to do this before we would.” This is what capitalists who want to create great products do as compared to ideologues trying to impose their religion on us.
Last month I wrote about how we can build a positive and safe future for everyone: meta.com/thefutureisforevery… Every lab has the responsibility and incentive to move at the pace required to train its models safely, and the ability to take its own actions to ensure that happens. The reality is: - People won't want to use agents that are misaligned with them and that don't do what they ask, so labs have a strong natural incentive to make their models more aligned. There is a lot of debate about slowing progress on capabilities until alignment catches up. My view is that trust and alignment are quickly becoming the most important capabilities that will differentiate agents and models. Any lab that doesn't focus on alignment will fall behind. - Labs face significant liability if their models cause harm, so they have a strong incentive to prevent this as well. Meta delayed shipping Muse for several months to focus on safety and security. We didn't call for everyone else to do this before we would. We just did it as part of our day-to-day work because it was clearly the right thing for people and for us. I'm proud of the security foundations we've built. - Engaging independent evaluators and advisors is industry best practice. MSL already does this today in several areas because it helps produce better work. Other labs can just do this too. In general, it would be helpful for there to be a larger and more diverse ecosystem of evaluators. - Committing the significant majority of compute towards serving people rather than racing towards recursive self-improvement is one of the best ways to ensure we develop this technology safely. Meta has made this commitment and other labs can do this as well. I believe the key to building a positive future for everyone is maintaining the right balance of power. This is within our power to do.

Yes and I think it’s even worse - at its core, this is Communist totalitarianism that learned to speak San Francisco.
There is an unseen hand pushing AI safety as a political ideology. Effective Altruists believe a tiny group of technocrats should decide how much technological progress the rest of us are allowed to have…. and how many shrimp your life is worth. You are witnessing their attempted coup. thefp.com/p/dangerous-ideolo…

EA is total communism.
EA AI safetyism increasingly looks like Marxism-Leninism for the algorithmic age. The old vanguard claimed privileged knowledge of the inevitable course of History. The new one claims privileged knowledge of the probabilistic course of Humanity. Both use an elaborate intellectual framework to reach the same political conclusion: a small group of enlightened people must constrain everyone else for their own good. That has never lead to anything except monumental human suffering.

At least 50% right, but there are other reasons too.
All the regulations being floated by frontier model companies must be viewed through the lens of them losing tokens to Open-Source models. The timing of these regulations seems to line up perfectly with Open Source closing the gap significantly (but not completely) — and @nvidia going all in on open source in the last 60 days. If we’re gonna regulate, why don’t we require that last year’s frontier models and weights be open-sourced?

Find this very healthy as a discourse but if even 10% true, then very constitutionally justified nationalization cometh.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

We have a four-person team at Grindr working on a completely new product. There isn't a single engineer on the team. The PM used to be an engineer. The designer and product people are technical. And with AI, they're writing the code themselves. Some of what they've built is already running on my phone inside the Grindr app. That's obviously an unusually capable team today. I don't think it will be unusual for very long. The ability to build software is becoming much less tied to having “engineer” in your title.
