ANNETTE J BEVERIDGE. Climate & NATURE News. THE GREEN NEWSROOM Campaign: Saving Britain's Wildlife. Green Party.thegreennewsroom.com

Salisbury, England
Saving Britain's Wildlife is a personal project to raise awareness about the state of nature in this country and to shine a light on nature protections. We can do more for nature ....starting at home. We can talk about the wonders of wildlife, we can be earnest in our drive to protect key species or to bring back wildlife that became instinct. We can protect wildlife in our own garden. The more we enthuse, the greater our reach. 💚 The joy of nature is infectious. We can spread that love by being bold with our communications. Join me if you care about our British wildlife. 💚 1)

Please sign to help protect these birds 👇
Please support this important work. Ostriches are incredible birds we share the planet with. They should not be treated like this. Ostriches can live for decades. In the fashion industry these birds die at 12 months old. Take action now: peta.asia/1dd (via @PETAAsia)

💚💚Every autumn, Corvo Island in the Azores turns off its public lighting for a few key days to help fledgling Cory’s shearwaters as they attempt to fly to the ocean guided by the stars Once a year, Corvo, the smallest and most northerly island of Portugal’s Azores archipelago, goes dark. Since 2019, the island’s 450 or so inhabitants have chosen to switch off every autumn for five nights to tackle the disastrous effects of artificial light on Cory’s shearwaters, a seabird endemic to the Atlantic Ocean. It began in 1991 when the community noticed huge numbers of deaths among young shearwaters. The juveniles spend three months in their nests before attempting their first flight to the ocean, orienting themselves by the stars. theguardian.com/environment/…

Here's an exceptionally rare vagrant. 💚 A rufous-tailed scrub robin was seen at South Landing, Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire (October 26). This species breeds in dry habitats - a narrow area from southern Iberia east to Pakistan, plus in the Sahel. Image: Bernard DuPont

Heartbreaking A pony has died after being caught in a rope used to make a swing at a national park. The animal is believed to have become entangled at a site near Lyndhurst in the New Forest, Hampshire, before spending a night trying to free itself. It was found on Saturday. The accident has prompted warnings about the danger makeshift rope swings pose to wildlife. Authorities in the national park said rope swings could also be dangerous to humans as trees were liable to break. The New Forest is home to about 5,000 free-roaming ponies and their welfare is overseen by agisters. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmjw…

Oh WOW! A parrot crossbill was seen in Aberdeenshire on October 26. 💚 According to the BTO, there is a small breeding population in the Caledonian pine forest in north-east Scotland. I really didn't know that. A member of the finch family, the male is orange to red and the female is olive- green or grey. The tail is noticeably forked and the bill is very parrot-like. The Parrot Crossbill is a large, powerful finch. It has a deep parrot-like bill and a sharply forked tail. Photo: Arnstein Rønning

Residents, schools and businesses are being offered free artificial nests in a bid to boost numbers of a threatened bird species. 💚 The scheme, led by the Hampshire Ornithological Society, aims to install up to 900 artificial nests 'cups' to support house martins, which have seen their UK population decline by 40 per cent between 1995 and 2024. The Hampshire House Martin Project will focus on properties across the county ahead of the birds' return from Africa in April and May 2027 More here: andoveradvertiser.co.uk/news…

I would vote for this. 👇 Maybe @10DowningStreet should look into this.
Should MPs be required to live on the UK median salary for six months before being allowed to make decisions about benefits, wages and living costs?

I believe the RSPB are about to update their bird feeding advice saying that it is ok to start feeding but feeders should be cleaned at least weekly. This is what I have been saying all along. It is about the cleanliness of feeders. I never stopped feeding the birds but I was ultra fussy with keeping everything clean (which takes minutes). I also checked on the health of the birds in the garden. Birds here are so healthy and I am glad I kept feeding them.

Robin was waiting for me this morning so he had a couple of suet pellets but as I looked to my left, in the higher parts of the hedge, the sparrows were waiting. Not just waiting, staring. I quickly filled up the window feeder and in the reflection from the glass could see them moving into position behind me.

We haven't fared much better. It is shameful. 👇 Despite designating 14% of its waters as protected areas, the EU has placed less than 1% under strict protection, leaving marine ecosystems vulnerable to damaging fishing practices and putting its 2030 biodiversity targets at risk. The EU is unlikely to meet its 2030 targets for protecting marine biodiversity, with many designated marine protected areas offering little meaningful protection against damaging activities such as commercial fishing, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) warned on Monday. euronews.com/2026/10/26/eu-s…
