People who are really serious about (wet) software - culture -, should make their own social network. @balajis just acquired @farcaster_xyz and set an explicit social contract. Only techno-optimists allowed. A few didn't consent and exited to other clients, without losing their social graph and content. That's how it should be. Trying to force two tribes with fundamentally different values to share the same space is crazy.
Last year I thought Threads was an existential risk to X. When Meta puts its full weight behind something -- by injecting the app into Instagram, it’s DEFCON 5: You have to squeeze out every last drop of growth from all available surfaces to save the app. However, I started to realize that the opposite was happening: It was strengthening X. If you look at any announcement by Zuck, you will see the most rude & toxic comments on the internet. But when he makes those same announcements on X, people are thrilled about how he’s pushing humanity forward. X is a place where people are excited about the future, so it’s no surprise he and his top lieutenants are using it more than their own app. Threads — and Bluesky — have effectively quarantined some of the worst people on the internet. And so I had an epiphany: those apps are X’s anti-abuse systems.

Jean's full presentation at the Network State Conference.
piped.video/watch?v=-CG-Pv8c… Our presentation at the Network State Conference is live now. My goal was sharing part of our strategy in leveraging @ipecity community and platform as a governance lab and economic engine for builders and companies. We'll succeed if we generate a parallel governance platform for our community able to generate more opportuntities than the cost of the passport membership. That's why you move to a new city after all -- it has the power to generate economic opportunities for you through network, jobs, education, culture-alignment, etc. The first grants and jobs we generated (+$10k) were just the beginning. We'll increase the scope of it and improve a lot the process. Hope to see you all next year in Floripa. LFG!

Really fun to speak at @ns conference once again. I used the opportunity to share a few ideas on bootstrapping a new community and why @ipecity is focusing on applying frontier tech to solve problems from emerging countries. Also, many great connections made at our booth with @andr9froes. Ipê Village 2027 is gonna be epic. See you all next year.

"Knowing the principles of effective learning is only the first step. Coordinating all of them for one student is much harder. Doing it continuously for an entire classroom is almost impossible to manage by hand. The science has been there for decades; the missing piece was a system capable of unifying it for every student, every day, at scale. That's the problem Math Academy is designed to solve."

Excited to share this! An accessible look at science and tech, a question we’ve all asked ourselves and how MA approaches the issue.

The lineup we have for the new documentary is honestly @netflix worthy. Our website is still a bit outdated (we’re keeping a few prominent participants off it for now) but you can check out some of them here: networksociety.film/episode3. Really impressed by the work the team has done connecting with the world’s leading projects and schools building alternative education models. But the most important part is the dozens and dozens of families with kids attending alternative schools or homeschooling. Many of them volunteered to share their real experiences, including some bad ones 👀. Because the real impact of education shows up in families’ and kids’ lives, not inside a classroom. Our filming tour starts in a few weeks. Can’t wait. LFG!

Watch the full interview with @balajis, recorded in 2024 for the first episode of The Network Society documentary. It was less than three years ago, but it feels like decades. Enjoy.
