I’m 100% with Tim here, and have been for over a year now. Many false equivalencies have been put up as counter examples, but the simple economic math breaks through it all: - AI tools bring the horizon closer, moving the cost of pursuing ideas out of the realm of risk and expense into that of “time” and “cognitive effort” - creativity and craft maintain their supreme reign, even if the pieces between idea and playable experience have changed (which has been the case since Spacewar! showed up on a screen in the MIT lab)
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.

Cope. People hate AI slop, and the full gen AI game they've just delayed will experience that first hand

Dunno what you think I’m coping against here but I wish you well in your endeavors.

My brother recently got laid off from a Las Vegas game company because of AI. Now he's pissed that I can do his job better using these tools. Either adapt or lose.

I wonder if the optimism is balanced with realistic fear. What all of the AI companies are becoming competitors to Unreal Engine from the developers point of view? What if next year there are 1000 new game engines competing with Unreal Engine because AI makes it easy for people to build game engines from scratch? I think the future of big companies is that they become small companies, because the competition in the software industries, is about to explode, and it will continue to explode exponentially year after year. You might start to think that Unreal Engine in 5 years could have 1/100th of it's earning potential that it has today. If this is not a real possibility to you, I mean what's your argument for why not? I think not even the giant companies can escape the dramatic changes in supply vs demand in the software market. I foresee most if not all large software companies dissolving over the next 30 years to become small companies that can barely do better than a billion other small software companies. You are going to be taco vendor I think.

In the end the consumers will decide what is acceptable. From what I have seen it doesn't look good for AI in development... especially in AA & AAA space.

Video games were adaptable to gamer preferences. Now they will be adaptive to gamer preferences.

Okay so we collectively fire 1000 people, ruin careers, ruin the environment so you can think cognitive effort is a problem. You havent put any cognitive effort into this at all.
