Minimums so far this morning. Unfortunately, numerous Sierra Wireless modems have failed in the cold this morning. Stations are still collecting data, meaning, all minimums may have to wait until later today to be collected. #ndwx#mnwx#mtwx

Questions about fall-applied nitrogen coming in. Soil temperatures in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota (@NDAWNmesonet) are still too warm for anhydrous ammonia or urea, with weekend forecast looking even warmer. Wait to apply nitrogen to reduce potential losses.
General rules for fall-applied nitrogen in North Dakota:
1) After October 1
2) Soil temperature at 4 inches below 50 °F in morning
If yes to both, okay for anhydrous ammonia. Wait one week for banded urea. Wait two weeks for broadcast urea.
Did soybean iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC) seem worse in 2022? Well, the average soybean variety in the @NDSUPlantSci soybean IDC trials scored 3.5; that is bright yellow leaves with brown speckling. ag.ndsu.edu/varietytrials/so…
This is my plea to soybean breeders and seed companies that soybean IDC tolerance must be a higher priority. In the upper Midwest and northern Great Plains, 40 to 60% of soils present high soybean IDC risk; we need stronger varieties. agvise.com/wp-content/upload…
