Which has lower latency… Wayland or X11 (Xorg / XLibre)?
Wayland developers and advocates have claimed, for many years, that Wayland is faster (with lower latency) and more efficient than X11.
Nvidia has conducted research into that question… and determined that…
Wayland does NOT provide lower latency than existing X11 servers.
This shows that Wayland has failed at one of its core goals (to remove architectural “bottlenecks”, providing improved performance over X11)… a goal which Wayland has been working on for over 18 years without success.
In other words:
- Wayland uses more RAM than X11.
- Wayland is missing significant features of X11.
- Wayland is no faster than X11.
It will be interesting to see how Wayland advocates spin this.

At some point in history web devs decided that building websites was too simple and they needed to larp as engineers so the solution was to over complicate the shit out of a text file
I genuinely don’t understand how building a simple website became a full-blown crisis. You used to just write some code and it worked. Now you need Next.js, three different APIs, a package manager, and a cloud server just to put a paragraph of text on a screen. We are literally over-engineering our own misery. I just want to write a script without consulting the elders and sacrificing a goat to the dependency gods.

‼️Two popular Rust crates, arrayref and append-only-vec, were compromised in a supply chain attack. arrayref alone has 244M downloads. The malware ran at build time, which means anyone who compiled a project that pulled one in was hit, without ever calling the crate.

In the world of Linux, once something gets stable automatically changes its state into “old and unmaintainable” and needs to be rewritten from scratch usually removing features as the only way to correctly implement it.
I hope they keep focusing on adding bling bling…
i don't understand why all the focus of modern DE's is to have weird effects and transparency instead of finally making it stable
