Drowning in comment letters, but not complaining, because I'm so happy to have so many constructive, innovative proposals to opine on (& the privilege & ability to do so). God bless America!

Real hedging use case here.
An LA hospitality group runs 25 bars, many of them right by Dodger Stadium. Every extra playoff game means packed bars. An early exit means lost revenue they were counting on. So they hedged it. They put $60,000 on Kalshi on the Dodgers *not* making the World Series. The Dodgers lost the NLCS to the Brewers. The position returned nearly 2x, helping cover the playoff business that *never* came. A Columbia law professor told Fortune it works like “a form of bespoke insurance.” Read the full story here: fortune.com/2026/10/19/predi…

We went to a Halloween party the other day, & a lot of the little girls were dressed up as Taylor Swift, K-Pop Demon Hunters characters, cheerleaders, etc. Tbc there's nothing wrong with that. But my 6-year-old chose to be Athena for Halloween, & that is the BEST.

CME alleged "textbook competitive injury" in their initial complaint. The CFTC's reply brief yesterday rejected that argument. CME has to show injury (actual or imminent competition), causation, & redressability, & the CFTC calls out CME's ability to launch perps. 👀

Commodities are cool 🧅
University of Chicago Students to Protest at Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Demand End to Federal Ban on Onion Futures Student-led group For Our Futures will rally Monday morning to call for repeal of the 1958 Onion Futures Act On Monday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m., members of For Our Futures, a student-led organization from @UChicago, will gather outside the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (@CMEGroup) headquarters to demand the repeal of the Onion Futures Act of 1958, a nearly 70-year-old federal law prohibiting futures trading in onions. The Onion Futures Act, enacted following allegations of market manipulation in the 1950s, singled out onions for a prohibition on futures contracts that remains in effect today. For Our Futures is calling on Congress to repeal the ban and restore the ability of onion growers, buyers, and traders to participate in a regulated futures market. Onions remain the only commodity banned from futures trading in the United States. The protest will feature a giant inflatable onion costume, protest signs, and dozens of students, and will take place outside the headquarters of CME Group, one of the world's largest derivatives marketplaces and the historic center of American onion futures trading. Every serious frontier tech company - big or small - should assume it has insider threats. And they don’t need to be that sophisticated. I saw it in government. I saw it with crypto. OpenAI is the latest. Founders tend to assume good intentions while speaking about some of their most sensitive information out loud: capabilities, unreleased products, strategic plans, government relationships. Employees are the most obvious vector. The more sophisticated operations target founders, execs, and vendors through romantic, family, and social relationships. And on small teams, one compromised person can do a lot of damage. With former federal prosecutors and ex-FBI agents as part of our team, we spend a lot of time on these issues. Here’s some of what we’re telling our founders: 1. Expect to see more private-sector versions of SCIFs and clearances, where the most sensitive conversations and work are physically isolated and under stricter access controls. 2. Agencies may know about a specific insider threat at a company but can't share that info unless someone at the company holds a clearance like TS/SCI. Lead times to get a clearance are long. Plan now. 3. Restrict access to sensitive meeting schedules, disable unused ports on conference-room equipment, and regularly sweep rooms used for confidential discussions for surveillance devices. You don't need OpenAI's budget to be ready. But you do need to start.

Today, BOA was fined $1.2B for anti-money laundering & sanctions violations. Two takeaways: 1) AML/sanctions enforcement is alive & well; 2) money laundering is not just a ‘crypto’ problem. Regulated FIs have specific standards for a reason. home.treasury.gov/news/press…

This might carry more weight with a body not comprised entirely of nerds.
🚨 The NFL is urging SCOTUS to let states regulate prediction apps like gambling. This is big. (1) Football is the top driver of trading volume. (2) The NFL is breaking from other leagues (MLB, NHL) that have prediction partnerships. (3) This pits the NFL against the Trump admin

I'm not sure I agree that "For the FIRST time, we have an environment where both institutions and individuals can, and are willing to, engage with a plethora of RWAs" but I love that 3 tradfi friends have sent this to me today already - citriniresearch.com/p/breaki…

lol spot on
Silicon Valley keeps building me a husband when what I really want is a wife lol I don't want an agent that only does one-off, random tasks that are nice but not life-changing: booking flights, making dinner reservations, or buying tickets I want an AI wife who knows what’s on the family calendar, remembers there’s a birthday party Saturday and we haven’t bought a gift then sends me options, realizes we’re almost out of diapers and buys them, knows which bills are coming up, remembers someone needs a dentist appointment and books it, figures out what the hell we’re eating all week and what we need from the grocery store, and generally keeps track of the 47 things that need to happen before anyone else even realizes they need to happen. So, who's building me an AI wife that carries the mental load instead of an AI husband that waits for me to give it a chore??

One of many nuggets from the flurry of activity in the past few moments from the CFTC - @MichaelSelig’s comments indicating that no one should be forced to register just because they ship code. I love to see this pragmatic, productive approach from our regulators. 🙏

All these trolls in the comments are upset at me bc I cited the PSL as a troll comment. Context, people! Everybody go touch grass, happy Friday!
A troll told @kkirkbos to "go get a pumpkin spice latte." ☕ Her advice for women in crypto: grow a tough skin, because a lot of those comments aren't about you.

One at the CFTC, two at the SEC. Five seats here, five seats there, so many empty chairs to spare! Could we fill them? Yes, we can. Could we fill them soon? That’s the plan. (Hopefully) But now we don't need to bc the SEC is amending its rules. sec.gov/files/rules/final/20…
