Google's Suncatcher prototype, launched Oct 1 on Transporter-18, ran Gemma 4 on a data-center-class TPU in orbit and downlinked a haiku over Svalbard. 4 TPUs aboard, 1 kW of power, one chip on at a time for ~20 min. Twin linked sats in 2027. Compute is the next payload.

NYT: US intel had judged Megaspeed exec Alice Huang, who was probed over possible Nvidia chip diversion to China, a Beijing asset close to Jensen Huang. Trump was briefed ~a year ago & didn't act. Firms tied to her kept buying Nvidia chips this year. Export controls, meet dinner circuit.

SpaceX’s launch VP says the first Florida Starship catches Super Heavy at Pad 39A, flies about six orbits, then lands the ship at Starbase. Florida gets a launch tower before a landing site, so early Cape flights still depend on Texas recovery.

SpaceX stopped selling commercial Falcon 9 missions after 2028, told NASA that Crew Dragon retires by 2030, and passed on 3 new Space Force launch bids, NASA lunar lander rides. Starlink & AI are the business now. Opportunity for Rocket Lab, Blue & others... if they deliver.

Milan prosecutors wrapped a probe of 10 suspects accused of stalking and threatening Chinese dissidents, incl. 'Teacher Li,' who has millions of followers. Four are Chinese nationals allegedly in 'constant contact' with Beijing. The CCP's long arm now has an Italian docket.

Beijing sent its Manila defense attaché, a senior captain, to the ADMM-Plus in Cebu, its lowest-level showing since 2010, then blamed Manila. Teodoro had an undersecretary greet him: "more than courteous." Rank parity, delivered politely.

RocketLab's 100th Electron just left the factory for the pad, less than a decade after the first test flight in May 2017. No. 99 is set to fly next week. Small launch was supposed to be a graveyard, yet Peter & his crew proved most people wrong.
Triple digits unlocked. 💯🚀 The 100th Electron has left the factory, headed for launch. Thank you and congratulations to the many people behind this rocket, and the 99 before it.

The CCP's fifth plenum confirmed a record 33 expulsions, 16 from the military, incl. ex-CMC vice chair Zhang Youxia. Attendance fell to 279 from 315 a year ago. The Central Military Commission is now two men: Xi and Zhang Shengmin. That is not a bench...

Jared needs to stay NASA administrator for the next couple decades. He is just incredible
You are moving to a different point now, which is fine. But I want you to know that I was respectful in my reply, as I have been to the critics. You were not correct about the public display of the Moon rocks or about prior presidents having rocks in the Oval Office. Now you have pivoted to the budget request. The President submitted a budget request that challenged NASA to do more with less. I provided testimony on the budget because, as you would see in OIG reports, there are examples where NASA was not the best at resource allocation and outcomes suffered. But ultimately, Congress appropriated funding, as is its responsibility. Then we had a year like 2026: the Artemis II mission went very well and we immediately press on to Artemis III, not wasting time or money, six astrophysics missions set records; we held “too big to fail” programs accountable for being over budget and behind schedule; and we launched new initiatives in a logical, iterative way, like Moon Base and SR-1 Freedom. A flagship mission like Roman launched ahead of schedule. X-planes are actually flying again (and on their way to KSC at this moment). We have dramatically rebuilt the workforce, added thousands of civil servants, and put our machine shops back to building hardware. We have taken control of our destiny and put NASA back in the driver seat. And as a result, we have a President who has clearly taken notice and is showing a lot of interest in America’s space program, from Artemis to Roman. This is how you go from being asked to do more with less to being asked to do more with more.

DHS ends visa-free entry for PRC nationals to the Northern Marianas at 2pm EDT Oct 30. 3,000+ used it in FY2025, vetted by CBP, not a consular officer. DHS cites onward travel and activity near sensitive military sites. The side door to our Pacific bases just got a lock.

Alphabet spent $51B on capex in Q3, 4.6x what Exxon and Chevron spent combined in Q2 ($11B). Exxon turned its spending into $17B of free cash flow. Alphabet turned its into minus $9B. Drilling for oil still has better odds than drilling for AI.
Google reported negative free cash flow of $9 billion in Q3, driven by massive capital expenditures on AI infrastructure (property & equipment spending up 114% YoY to $51 billion). This was Google's largest decline in free cash flow ever and only the second quarterly decline in the company's history (first was in Q2). $GOOGL

Ship 42 finished a full-duration six-engine static fire and a single-Raptor deorbit burn sim. Booster 22 fired all 33 Oct 25. Flight 15 aims to catch both stages in November, pending FAA. Catch the ship and full reuse stops being a slide.
Ship 42 static fires complete. The Starship preparing for Flight 15 performed a full duration, six-engine static fire, and fired a single Raptor engine to simulate a deorbit burn
