One of the coolest things about coaching high school athletes is watching the kid who WASN’T the best player at 14 become the best player at 18… The early bloomer doesn’t always stay ahead… The smallest kid doesn’t always stay the smallest… And the kid throwing 75 mph as a freshman isn’t destined to throw 75 forever Kids grow at different rates. They develop at different rates. They figure things out at different times Parents, stop comparing your 14 year old to someone else’s 14 year old Nobody earns a college scholarship at 14 because they were the best player on their 14U team Give these kids time to develop. You might be surprised who they become…

I was driving home tonight just thinking about how lucky I am to do what I do. I spend so much time with these guys that I know how much certain moments mean to them. I see the frustrating days, the setbacks, the days where nothing seems to click. So when things finally start coming together for them, it’s hard not to get just as excited as they do. And something that makes all of this even more special to me is that my 3-year-old son gets to grow up around these guys. He gets to watch them show up every day, work hard, handle adversity, and chase something they care about. I don’t think I could ask for a better environment for him to grow up around. Had a lot of moments this week that reminded me why I love doing this. Couldn’t be more proud of these guys. I really do have the best job in the world.

Another great week at @mineperformance. Thanks to all of the coaches for all that they do to help players improve and move to the next level. I’m excited to continue working with them. @Riverbats2029 practices have also begun. I’m looking forward to next season with the team.

One of my favorite things about baseball is how much a player can change in the offseason The 78 mph sophomore can become the 86 mph junior… The 150-pound kid can show up 20 pounds stronger… The kid nobody was recruiting can suddenly have 10 schools calling… I’ve watched it happen over and over again Your development isn’t linear, and where you’re at today doesn’t determine where you’ll be a year from now A lot can change in 6 months when you stay consistent on the little things & stack the days
