Candidate Master. I record chess videos and podcasts with top GMs (Nepo, Fabi, Arjun, Pragg, Wei, Aronian, Giri, MVL, Dubov). My chess YouTube ⏬️

In this game, I sacrificed my Rook 4 times and my Knight 3 times to beat an FM. This is why I play the King's Indian Defense - to have exciting games like this. I think @GMGawain might like this - it's his pet line with Nbd7! This was Round 8 of the Atyrau Open tournament.

My blitz level is still horribly low xD

Special thanks go to KazChess for great organization, to my wife for her support and to @GMJacobAagaard for his Killer Homework at the @killer_chess Academy, which has sharpened my calculation to the point where I could outcalculate much higher-rated opponents.

The Atyrau Open is over. It was my best tournament this year. I beat several masters and was in the fight for 1st till the very end. I finished 7th ($500 prize) and gained 50 Elo points. In one game, I sacrificed a Rook 4 times and Knight - 3. Check it out in the pinned tweet!

It was harder mostly because it’s a new niche - in Russian, my YouTube was not about chess originally, but about tech, books, and interesting ideas that inspire me

My new podcast with GM Oleksandr @BortnykChess is out! Blitz and bullet tips, what sets top players apart, and what's wrong with EWC qualification. Plus the harsh reality of life as a GM — years of sacrifice, financial struggles, and no guarantees. Don't miss it 👇

20 thousand subscribers on YouTube! Finally! Thanks to everyone who is watching, you can congratulate me on this milestone in replies! (My first channel in Russian now has 260k subscribers, but getting to 20k in English was much harder for me).

It’s not the only move, but the easiest path, yes. My goal in this exercise was for readers to calculate the line to the end and make sure they are winning and stopping the h-pawn. I fully agree with the discarding moves statement!

Thanks! Although Rook f2 refutes it - I wasn't sure what to do after that (the Knight gets stuck there and the engine says it's +1.5), but I still decided to go for it. BTW I'd love to have you on my podcast as guest - please DM me if you are interested (your DMs are closed)

Many GMs I've spoken to believe that it's actually more calculation in endgames than in any other part of the game, and I agree!

Fabi is doing whatever it takes to stay in the race for the US Championship gold, unleashing the Scandinavian Defense!!! That's the spirit!

Calculate this position deeply to find the win for Black (don’t forget about White’s counterplay!). It’s Black to move, from my game at the Atyrau Open tournament. Endgames are all about calculation, contrary to what many think!

From my game against a Mongolian FM at the Atyrau Open tournament in Kazakhstan. White to move, find the forcing win! Not too hard, but beautiful.

The engine says it’s equal after that pawn falls. I would say it becomes a three-result game after that, though I think it’s easier to play with White. In the end, the game did end in a draw (I found a perpetual), but I missed the stalemate trick

Well, nobody solved it, but the solution is BEAUTIFUL! Queen a1 check, King b3 (or, if the Knight blocks, the d5 pawn will fall), and then... Queen a3 check!!! And it's a stalemate.
