when people say they want engagement I don't think most of them mean stats... they just mean they want to be a part of the conversation when you enjoy their works. you freak out about the ao3 outage, missing the fics. but the creators of the fics aren't allowed to miss you?

THIS is the nuanced take. it's been incredibly frustrating in the past year or so that SO many people just read fics and never interact with them. i've been in fandom for a long time and i've never had fics with such an imbalanced ratio of hits to comments.
Here’s my 2 cents on the ao3 drama&conflama: I don’t care if people download/share my fics (I download fic all the time. I read on an ereader). I don’t care that during this outage people are asking for epubs of my work or sharing my work in drives. That being said it is annoying

Tl;dr: community involves all parties, and I’m really tired of seeing so many readers talk about how fandom is community driven when you guys don’t treat writers as a part of that community. Writers are not upset about credit, they’re upset about being reduced to content.
