I remain as convinced as I was in 2024 that the Chagos Affair is the smoking gun of deep corruption at the heart of the British state.
This isn’t ineptitude. There is no legal or diplomatic reality to force this. What there is however is personal vested interests among many officials who stand to personally benefit. Example:
Philippe Sands is the lead lawyer for Mauritius. Philippe hired Kier Starmer at Matrix Chambers, catapulting Kier’s career. Kier therefore owes Philippe for his career. Philippe stands to gain significantly from the deal.
There are many other examples of officials whose reasons for pushing for handing the islands away make little sense.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like and duck…chances are it is a duck.
This is deep corruption. One day it will be exposed.
Weren't we told a year or more ago that if the UK didn't give the Chagos away to Mauritius the base would become unviable to operate within weeks? So presumably it's been unviable for many months now, already? Or...it couldn't be that the government was shamelessly lying, no?
