SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch released the following statement Thursday:
“I have worked tirelessly to serve this House Democratic Caucus. It is one that I love, and deeply respect.
I have always told the caucus that our time in this space is finite, but we are playing an infinite game.
Diversity is our strength, but unity is our power. Together, we passed historic legislation on transit, cannabis and energy, and secured greater investments in education. We defended vulnerable seats and
grew our majority in every election under my leadership, building a historic House Democratic majority. I am proud of this work, but I serve at the pleasure of the caucus, and I want our caucus to lead in unity and take on the mandate we received from voters this past election confidently.
With that, I look forward to joining the caucus as we usher in our next leader and take our party further into the future.”

Bob meets Pope Bob. How R ya....
Pope Leo XIV met with American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in a private audience on Wednesday, November 4. The Vatican press said that during the brief meeting between the two, the Holy Father presented the singer with a rosary, while Dylan reciprocated with a copy of his book.
Leo, originally from Chicago, is a known fan and quoted a 1963 anti-nuclear protest song by Dylan, "Go Away You Bomb," in the preface to a book released in July.

If current numbers hold, it looks as if School Board President-elect Jessica Biggs will lead an evenly divided 20 member board between CTU and non-CTU candidates. If those loyalties stand - CTU will lose its majority on the board as Biggs would cast the tie-breaking vote on policies like the budget. CPS is in for some very contentious and interesting school board meetings in the coming months and years.

My current tally of Elected School Board districts - 10 CTU endorsed candidates have either won or are currently in the lead, 10 non-CTU endorsed candidates have one or are in the lead. The President (Biggs in the lead) would be tie-breaking vote on the board. This is going to be a very divided board of education!
