🌍 Beyond 2030: Reimagining SDGs with Global South Priorities
With the 2030 deadline approaching and progress across the Sustainable Development Goals remaining uneven, TERI convened a high-level dialogue today in New Delhi on Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and Beyond.
Hosted at the TERI office, the gathering brought together policymakers, diplomats, multilateral leaders, and researchers to deliberate on what global development must look like after 2030, placing Global South priorities firmly at the centre.
Dr
@shaillykedia, Director, TERI, opened the dialogue by framing the urgent context of post-2030 planning, followed by Ms Ishita Srivastava, Associate Fellow, TERI, who outlined the overarching questions shaping the Agenda 2030 endgame. Chaired by Mr RR Rashmi, Distinguished Fellow TERI, the keynote session featured compelling interventions on institutional equity, governance, and structural reform.
@AmbHarishP (MEA) underscored the imbalance in global multilateral governance, while Ms Rajasree Ray (
@moefcc) stressed looking beneath global aggregate data to address chronic gaps in fundamental goals such as water and sanitation when designing the next framework. Dr Pisupati Balakrishna (
@UNEP India) highlighted that future goals must hinge on institutional resilience, and Dr Jyotsna Padiyar, IAS (Government of Maharashtra) urged for a decisive shift toward measuring service quality.
Ms Ruchika Gupta (
@GoIStats) highlighted the need for subnational flexibility and data-driven resource allocation. Mr
@Arvinn (
@norwayinindia) stressed the importance of independent, well-funded national statistical systems, while Mr Soumya Garnaik (
@gggi_hq) called for simpler SDG targets and definitions.
The roundtable brought together discussants from over 40 organisations, with deliberations focusing on financing, technology access, AI governance and multilateral reform. The proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr Kumar Rohit, TERI. The insights will contribute to global discussions leading up to the 2027 SDG Summit.
