Reverse engineering reality
This amazing! I wish group theorist (and creator of the finite automata 'game of life'), John Conway were still here to see this: cfsg.axiommath.ai/. 43M lines of Lean proof.

Announcing three major scientific discoveries, one each in mathematics (harmonic analysis), computer science (complexity theory), and physics (quantum field theory). AI starting to help us improve our understanding of the universe! openai.com/index/building-sc…

Welcome to hell 😈
88% of VC-backed founders who exited their companies got $0. Eduardo Azevedo and Kent Smetters analysed 157,669 startups and 248,454 founders from 1987 to 2025. Let that sink in...

Tim is 100% right. Come on @valvesoftware , it’s time to remove the ridiculous AI disclosure.
Replying to @crierlon
Yep. They are burning down the businesses of good developers to enforce their politics. A year from now they’ll all be using AI, games will be better and made faster, and they’ll pretend their hate mob posting the death threats wasn’t wrong but merely misunderstood.

One thing that always strikes me as weird is that at the same time the gaming industry transitioned to standard engines and tooling (which were supposed to cut costs and streamline development) team size and production budgets ballooned. Why? I think one reason is that counterintuitively those same tools allowed more (less skilled?) people to participate, which led to deeper management structures in organizations that were typically quite flat.

I mean, there’s a lot here - the complexity of operating a live service, DLC, etc., etc. But I do find it odd that we didn’t see engineering teams shrink.

Yes.
The crash in the game business nowadays is the first for the new generation of gamers, but only one of several in the history of games. Here are my thoughts from 2000 when a maker of beloved but long-unprofitable games went under.

I mean not really. They’ll just regulate ours.
JUST IN: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang tells German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that there will be no AI industry for him to regulate if overregulation stops AI from being built in the first place.

This is how everyone should be using AI, even at work. It’s learning, exploring etc. Great AI needs great humans.
Hardware looks scary until you break it down into small steps. So I built an app that takes you through Arduino one circuit at a time. Made with Opus 5.5 learn-arduino-red.vercel.app

The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.
