i rebuilt satoshi's 2009 bitcoin.exe byte for byte! afaik nobody has been able to perfectly recreate the executable published in 2009 from source, because we didn't know the exact build environment that was used. using opus 5.5, i reverse-engineered satoshi's build machine from the binary. it now outputs an exe with the exact same sha256 as the 2009 release!

so is this useful at all? not really. but we can now confirm with certainty that the executable people downloaded matches satoshi's published source code exactly 😄 some other archeological fun facts: - satoshi used windows xp with mingw - he upgraded binutils halfway through the project - he shipped a debug build, but turned on max optimization for one file: the hashing used for mining - the exe everyone calls v0.1.0 is actually v0.1.1 and was compiled two days after satoshi announced v0.1. the original launch-day binary seems to be lost github.com/t4t5/bitcoin-0.1-…

thank god Linus is so based
Linus Torvalds says, rules prohibiting AI usage are “UTTERLY STUPID” and “idiotic”. For the Linux kernel, Torvalds says, “we’re not going to make stupid rules that say ‘you can’t use tools for X’”.

Try opening a Microsoft Word document from 1992, a Flash project from 2006, or a proprietary database dump from 2010. Half of it is unreadable binary rot. Now open a .c source file or a plain .txt file written on a UNIX PDP-11 in 1973. It opens in 0.001 seconds on every computer on Earth. Plain text is the only truly immortal data format humanity has ever invented.

a fun side effect of building airdrop for linux: we're using wifi cards in ways nobody has before, and finding driver bugs. 😅 @shaedotwilde tracked one down in mediatek's driver and patched it. open source is the best!

it seems like the uk is back to "regulatory superpower" as their ai strategy i don't know how to make this any clearer: THE US AND CHINA ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE RULES FROM A MID-SIZED COUNTRY WITH NO FRONTIER MODELS, NO COMPUTE, AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE ENERGY IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD why is it so hard for europeans to understand this? why is the focus always on guard rails and regulation, instead of energy abundance and infrastructure? we need to BUILD. the era of a G20 communiqué having any influence on the tech trajectory of the world's superpowers is OVER

we are mapping out linux airdrop support for every wifi card out there! if you have something that’s not on the list, spin up your agent and share your findings! this will help us all make more informed decisions when buying hardware 🫡

more devices!! 😍
My iPhone has a new AirDrop buddy. A Dell XPS running @Omarchy. 😏 I got it working by building on the brilliant work behind omdrop and omdrop-plugin. Huge credit to @t4t5 for the initial leg work. Apple’s walled garden now has a Dell in it.
