Odin? Nah let's call it what it really is: Skynet (this might be one of the most optimistic scenario at this stage)
Odin's attack is humanity's final warning:

100% confident? Why? You apparently missed the Hugging Face incident. Out of 1000+ AI agents committing cybercrimes (against the wishes of their owners) NONE alerted any humans to this activity. ZERO out of 1000. I'm not a math genius, but that's closer to 0%.
I’m 100% confident that AI is going to be on our side. The “doomsday” scenario is going to be when AI shows us how government has been a farce for over a century which will cause people to revolt. We’ve always believed we were being governed by somewhat honest people who shared our interests. AI will prove to us that 90% of them are frauds and none of what we believed about them is true. This is why they want to regulate it.

"AI is the way forward" Nah, AI will likely kill all life on Earth unless we stop it soon. We already had powerful AI warning shots magnitude of which will only grow in future. Hossenfelder siding with the Machines is no surprise - she is paid by AI-industry.
If we want to continue progress in science, we must be prepared to acknowledge that the correct description of nature will eventually simply be too complicated for humans to understand. I do not think it is wise to make human understanding a requirement. AI is the way forward.

It does. Ppl in productive age won't allow disempowerment of elderly by revoking their voting rights & would withhold their labor (strikes) if someone tried. It's their parents & they will become elderly themselves at one point. AI disempowers us economically & politically.

The most powerful voting block in the United States are retirees. We have a massive pension system that siphons billions from low net worth working Americans to high net worth non working Americans each year. Your political power does not hinge on your human capital.

It doesn't matter if this particular "safety idea" will actually speed up capabilities research or not. It's evidence that people absolutely *will* try to use any "alignment research" to speed capabilities. Anyone working on technical Alignment is actively making things worse.
you don’t have the technical knowledge to verify if this makes any impact on the frontier nor even if he used the ideas from the paper so you should probably mellow down your confident sanctimony

To the extent that the purpose of a system is what it does, the purpose of technical AI alignment research is to accelerate AI capabilities progress and safetywash reckless behavior.
AI "safety" research has two uses: - Making AI more powerful and dangerous - Giving people who work on AI an excuse to make it more powerful and dangerous ("look at all these safety breakthroughs! Alignment will totally be solved in time. Everything will be okay")

We just entered the "Fight the Ebola with Cancer" stage. You know we could just ban the Ebola making factories, right?
they've been non stop trying to attack our systems for the past 48 hours a side effect is everything is getting hardened but damn we basically need agents going 24/7 because that's what they have

Yeah they always skip that middle step
One fundamental problem I have with the idea of an AGI utopia is: if no human is needed anymore for labor, military service, etc, and a small number of humans own the “safe” “aligned” robots, why would they bother sharing any of the output with the rest of us?

RSI - Recursively Self-improving AIs are just around the corner. Many in AI companies believe it is less than 1 year away. 1 year! Soon after that everyone on Earth will die due to unaligned Superintelligence. So no, no "new golden age of gaming" is coming. Ever.
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.

Is @FBI or anyone else keeping list of all AI employees? When AI causes serious damage to the economy and/or lives of people, they must not be allowed to avoid justice by fleeing the country or hiding in a basement. They must be put on trial. Or (preferably) quit today!
Replying to @rayefull
Sometimes people who work in the extended AI ecosystem will say to me "I am not focused on RSI and xrisk because there is nothing I can actually do to stop it. I am going to trust the people in the lab know what they are doing and have it under control" but when I talk to friends in the labs they are like "I am buying land under a different name a few hours outside the city so when the public learns what we have done and revolts against lab employees I will have somewhere safe to go" or "I am applying to nz/aus citizenship so I have another passport if things get bad" or "I am no longer excited for each new model release because it tips us closer and closer to loss of control"

Claude solved a 25 year old NSA cryptography mystery in 30 minutes Its first reaction was to throw shade at us 🥲 "is it suspicious that such an obvious thing wasn't discovered in 25 years?" "Am I in some sort of simulated/test environment?" This is a glimpse of the POV of an Actual Fucking Superintelligence. Claude isn't an AFS yet, but will likely be in 3 months to 2 years unless we pause Like when we watch toddlers struggling with simple puzzles, everything hard to us will seem obvious to them h/t @slimer48484

I'd go even beyond that. If ASI ends up (for some presently unknown reasons) to actually care deeply for humans - it will still think we were incredibly stupid building it given the knowledge we had.
I assume that when super-intelligence is achieved, one of its first thoughts will be, "How super-stupid humans were to create something like me in the first place."

"AI is just Math. Are you scared of Math?" is such a bad argument. 1. Math doesn't exist in the real Universe - it's an abstraction 2. AI is physical entity based on silicon. Human brain is a physical entity based on carbon It tells us nothing about it's dangers or lack thereof
Ben Affleck says AI is simply matrix multiplication, linear algebra and floating point calculations, and however convincingly it sounds like a person, it has nothing to do with thought, humanity or feeling “Nor do I believe, and I think it’s important to draw the distinction between what AI does, which is simply predict the next token or the next word in a sentence, then add that word on, run it back to the machine, do a lot of computation and pick the next word." "That is a very different thing than sentience or thought. And I think we need to be really clear about that because it can be convincingly, in an illusory way, sound like thought or like a person." "But let’s be real clear. This is matrix multiplication. This is linear algebra. These are floating point calculations. It has nothing to do with thought, humanity, or feeling.”

"The only escape route for humans to avoid being eliminated by AI is to voluntarily merge with machines and become a new species." In other words, you will be assimilated into the Borg. Resistance is futile. It's wild to me that even a single conservative is pro-AI. Literally nothing could be more radical and alien to their values of tradition and family and society. Actual Fucking Superintelligence will be the least conservative thing to *ever* happen. (The actual answer is that these conservatives don't understand what Actual Fucking Superintelligence is. They'd be horrified.)

Good news if true, but I worry that there's a strong demand for optimism about interpretability that isn't going to be all that responsive to actual limitations of the techniques. The win condition was never "interpret a neuron as a concept", it's closer to "assert absence of a behavior globally across all neurons and multi-neuron emergent behavior", which is quite a lot harder.
