Visited ShellHacks Hackathon at FIU yesterday. 1K+ participants over a weekend, some of the biggest logos in tech sponsoring. Chatted with the Dean and he dropped crazy numbers: 9K+ CS students, ~2,100 grads every year. 1 problem: most don’t stay in Miami. They go work for those same companies in SF, Seattle, NYC etc. The conversation is always “Miami needs more tech talent” & “we need more cs programs” I think that’s totally missing the point. We have the talent. We have an incredible education system producing it. We’re just investing in other states talent pipelines 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Keeping them here is the real issue!

POV: A typical month for Superteam USA

The DOCK was packed last week for the Cursor Community Miami Hackathon thanks to our @cursor_ai Miami ambassador @BenMilshtein and the supportive team that made this happen. Thank you to Jerry Pierre, Sam Shaqour, Ayal Stern, Ben Lang, Tatenda Mahaka, and Alejandra Baptista Aguilar among many other volunteers. 200 builders from all over South Florida took came together to learn, build, and connect on a Thursday evening. Leveraging Cursor and other top AI tools, they shipped working products solving real problems in just one evening. The builder scene and culture is thriving here across the LAB campus.
