Really good guide! Worth noticing how each category plays on a dimension of silhouette and departs from the typical trousers. Length, pleats, ballooning etc etc.
Every time I brought up skinny or oversized trousers here, the flurry of replies seem to suggest a general anxiety that I suspect stems from a fear of falling behind the current trend. That is why I have put together a short list of trouser silhouettes that are more likely to stand the test of time, either because they sit on the edge of mainstream trends or occupy niche spaces that are unlikely to see mass adoption. I have narrowed the focus on menswear, as womenswear offers far greater variety, though some of these suggestions may also appeal to those interested in androgyny.

This is fully consistent with his views wanting the ultimate human agency in computing. LLMs are not that. They are useful but they are not about giving humans agency and transparency of computing substrate. They are about abstraction and almost all of Brets work has been a rallying cry against it. He literally hates how glass flattens all our interaction and wants more physical paradigms of computing. Ones that use all our senses. LLMs are the equivalent of glass screens in software in a way. He has often said how Apple did not actually get why Alan wanted Dynabook and hence we ended up with iPad. It’s kind of ironic to see people wanting to do that to his work now.
Bret Victor’s rejection of LLMs is internally consistent but has intensely blackpilled me on the whole movement. Scalable dynamiclands, communicating with ad hoc simulations, “Seymour Papert in a box” are ~trivially possible now!! I guess I gotta do it myself…

Hard to explain why but seeing this car has made me so damn happy. I am still giddy more than 24 hours later. I did not know a new car could still do that to me.

Some random things I need to say out loud: 1) AI so far is dangerously converging power in the hands of few and increasingly swapping labor for capital/compute 2) In a hyper capitalist environment that’s a recipe for disaster without rethinking income and what gives life purpose 3) Some of you are way too eager to give up on your own thinking 4) Some people and ideas are a cancer to democracy and society. Support is a choice. So is not associating. 5) We are at an all time low for ethics, principles and morality 6) Even thinking of AI welfare before welfare of all humans is deeply immoral 7) New Siri still sucks 8) I don’t quite get the iPhone Duo 9) The Mission S is beautiful

One of the last projects I got to work on while still at Apple. Congrats folks! Also can’t believe they did not go with HomePad.

Really wild seeing the two polar camps of reactions to this. Why not both? 1) We should obviously give the drug and save lives once it has passed the trials. 2) We should use all possible means to understand how it works in parallel to see if it can lead to other unique drugs or insights. And also just sheer curiosity.
This is a slide from Terence Tao's 'Math 2.0' public lecture yesterday evening at Caltech. I am highly confident that, if the cure actually worked, almost any Stage 4 cancer patient would tell you that human comprehension of its mechanism is completely irrelevant to them.

Unless you are being pitched co-founder or exec - most folks selling you this role is unknowingly selling you a false promise. It’s really hard to give the kind of agency/autonomy and time horizon this role needs without having the right skin in the game. Otherwise it’s a matter of time before your agency is undermined at the first opportunity of serious disagreement. What you are looking for really is a creative director of the company. And really that should be one of the founders - ideally the CEO. Now a person who can amplify the CEOs vision or rally the comms/marketing team it in the right way - yeah! But that mostly means you don’t really have the right execs in those roles if you are seeking this person. (Sorry if that’s a hard truth).
literal hardest role to hire for rn and every ai startup wants someone > chronically online (knows trends) > has taste & can create (new media) > understands ai & technical > can execute with quality (operator) such a small niche of folks who can do this

Can’t believe this needs to be said out aloud. But here we are.
The purpose of the AI industry should be to produce tools that, in the human hand, will improve human prosperity and welfare. It should not be to create a "successor species" to the human race. Entertaining such a thought makes you, de facto, the enemy of all present and future humans.

I really wish people sometime think a little beyond the now. I am very bullish on personal intelligence. But what happens to society when everyone or majority are behaving like this? Everyone’s asking their agents to look for Odyssey tickets or copping on an out of stock item? Sneaker world got destroyed by bots. Maybe we can learn lessons there. Ironically this is why I am bullish on personal intelligence. Because we are forcing a world where many business fronts will be AI. Most customer support is already AI. And at some point it’s more self respecting to just have my AI deal with your AI. This asymmetrical dynamic and agent escalation on both sides is not going to be fun to deal with.
Instinct has been managing my vacation itinerary all week and just convinced a distillery to OPEN 2 HOURS EARLY to give us a private tour and tasting so that we can make our reservations (which it also booked). All without me sending a single email or making a single call. Bullish.

A useful exercise in thinking of AI products or waves is: 1) what is intelligence getting anchored around 2) what does it gain unique (over base model) context from 3) Unit of organization Chat - Answers - Post training + web search - Thread Coding agents - Eng workflows & coding - Your code base + tool use (linear, GitHub etc) - PR Agents (personal & work) - Draining workflows esp with computer use - Data in apps (email, linear etc), code gen & computer use, some personalization of your preferences over long term - Entity/Character Companions - Being “seen” by someone - Open ended subjective conversations (vs answers) - Journal/Character Google Maps Ask Maps - Maps UI - Your gmail & calendar - Kind of session but also map object Figma/Paper - Spatial canvas - Your design system and aesthetics - A project Not fully fleshed but you get the idea.

This is genius level product growth tactic & timing. Also very Notion template playbook.
You can now share templates of your Bots with others.

One of the things about personal agents is how there is no network effect. The VM & computer use layer will commoditize. But unlike enterprise use cases you don’t really need to use the same agent as I do. That alone strongly means there won’t be one winner. But many. But also implies that you might see a lot of bespoke agents with unique personalities and vibes. Closer to clothing/fashion than apps. (Actually you see it already in apps that are pure utilities).

Dear @OpenAI, I think you guys are doing a messy job with the whole ChatGPT Chat, ChatGPT Work & Codex (& Remote) as 3 diff things stuck inside 1 app. You will unfortunately lose a lot of market to competitors with clearer positioning and standalone products. Using Chat and not having world class agentic power & computer use feels silly today. Most users don’t know when to switch bw the two. And more importantly WHY one would even need to. It’s like watching 3 different eras of AI products cobbled into one app. Chat > Coding agents > Agents with computer use & VM. Either simplify into one universal construct (everything is an agent) or create enough distinction in UI to amplify distinction. But current version is not it. ❤️

In love with this @google maps Ask Maps feature! I wish it had a better/tasteful discovery or knew me better but this is quite well done. Still wish there were a way to filter by category/open etc within a saved list. This is the kind of malleability I want in software.

You cannot really be post-labor without being post-capital. Otherwise we are simply replacing labor with hypercapitalism. Maybe I am simply too Culture pilled. Though that’s closer to a post-money/post-scarcity/post-economics world tbh.

“Shiny new problem” syndrome
Most early-stage teams don’t have a design problem. They have a too-many-attractive-wrong-turns problem.
