UBI isn't the only answer to AI job losses. It's the floor everything else stands on. Hinton calls it "a good start." Amodei says tax AI companies to fund it. We agree.
It’s a bloodbath in Bay Area. Thousands of layoffs, more to come.
Met a founder this morning who mentioned his AI tech is laying off 2000 call center workers.
Not sure if society is ready for such upheaval. Gut wrenching

Basic income is a top issue this BC election.
Almost half of British Columbians have a Green candidate who signed our pledge to work towards guaranteed basic income if elected.
This would be a generational investment in BC's future.

We asked every BC election candidate where they stand on income security.

Global BC Legislative Reporter and Saanich South candidate Richard Zussman has signed our Basic Income Pledge.
He's the first in his party to put it in writing: if elected, he will work toward a guaranteed basic income in BC.
Thank you, Richard. Who's next?

"The bottom line: Most Americans are working in low-quality jobs — and those with a good job worry about AI taking it away."
Universal basic income would mean being able to fully choose your job, and even create your own job. And it would pressure on employers to make better jobs, or to make bad jobs become better jobs, by paying better or having better hours, or simply treating people better.

Even human dancers are being replaced.
Honestly, kinda impressive but also sign of the times to come. Looking back, UBI will have been obvious -- no labour is safe.
Jamie Dimon says AI will eliminate jobs. It'll "probably" create some new ones. "It is what it is."
He warns that moving too fast could cause civil unrest. The RCMP warned Canada about the same risk in 2024, before AI job losses even started.
"Probably" isn't a plan.
