Vishy and I are very grateful to our friends in Cote d’Ivorie for their support.
Cote d’Ivoire is building its chess community by creating opportunities for players at different levels and investing in the next generation.
The country opened its 2025-26 chess season with more than 100 players across cadet, junior and senior categories. Its chess calendar also includes competitions for young players, school-level events, open tournaments and initiatives aimed at developing future talent. Education is an important part of this work, and the Cote d’Ivoire is helping build the local expertise needed to introduce more young people to chess and use the game as an educational tool.
Cote D’Ivoire also has an important role in the wide African and Francophone chess community. Stronger cooperation between federations can help chess grow throughout the region!
There is great potential for chess in Cote d’Ivoire and I look forward to continuing our cooperation and seeing the country play an increasingly active role in African chess!

Has to be the indomitable Ivanchuk. I bumped into him a few days back and he asked if we could click a photo. We have been rivals since the 80s taking turns to make it to the elite . I told him nice tshirt. He said Neymar reminds him of Arjun Erigiasi ... and that's why he bought it... Well Vasya always ready with a novelty

Such a terrible loss. He was always pleasant to see and work with whenever we met.A life gone too soon . Deepest condolences to the family.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague Sergei Indeikin, FIDE Operational Manager, following a sudden illness.
Sergei started working at FIDE events in 2021 and quickly became an integral part of our operations at major international events. Over the past five years, he worked behind the scenes at World Championships, World Cups, World Rapid and Blitz, Candidates Tournaments, as well as many events organised by the FIDE Events Commission, including championships for seniors, juniors and amateurs.
He travelled across the world to make sure these events ran professionally, efficiently and in accordance with FIDE standards. Much of this work is rarely visible to the public, but everyone who worked with Sergei knew how much responsibility, energy and care he put into every event.
Beyond his work, Sergei was also a generous person. He supported an orphanage and, wherever his work took him, he would bring back chess memorabilia and small gifts for the children from different parts of the world.
We will remember Sergei as a true professional, a reliable colleague and a kind person who contributed enormously to the work of FIDE.
Our deepest condolences go to Sergei’s wife, his young daughter, his family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of working with him.
He will be greatly missed.

My vision to FIDE: A strong FIDE means stronger federations 🤝
Every federation I speak to wants the same: stronger national chess, more support for their infrastructure and projects, better tools for development and a deeper connection with the global chess family. This strongly resonates with my vision for how chess should develop and the role FIDE should play in making it happen.
While the future of the game has never seemed brighter, opportunity itself is not enough. To move chess forward, we need to prepare FIDE for the future.
We need a well-organised and professional international federation that is financially sustainable, transparent, forward-thinking and in sync with the social and technological innovations reshaping our time. A federation which is united, modern and capable of serving every Member Federation fairly and equally. This is the essence of my vision, which I want to deliver together with Viswanathan Anand @vishy64theking as my Deputy President, and my trusted team.
If elected President, I will pursue several strategic objectives. The first one is: A strong FIDE means stronger federations. With more than 200 member federations, FIDE must be a uniting force, independent and respected across the world. A strong global chess governing body should be built on two equally important foundations: strong national federations and a well organised international governing body. Neither can succeed without the other. My responsibility as President will be to strengthen both.

Over the past four years, it has been an honour to work at FIDE and contribute to the development of chess . I have worked with colleagues from grassroots programmes to elite competitions. Together, we have made significant progress in expanding opportunities for players, federations and organisers, while making chess more accessible.
I am proud of what we have achieved as a team, but I also believe there is much more we can accomplish. That is why I have accepted Timur Turlov's invitation to continue serving as FIDE Deputy President as part of his team.
I believe Timur has the vision, energy and expertise to maintain the momentum we have built in recent years while opening new opportunities for chess. His experience in leading a publicly listed international company, his commitment to technology and innovation, and his long-standing support for chess make him well positioned to guide FIDE into its next chapter. Through his leadership, I believe FIDE can become even more digital, financially resilient and inclusive, while ensuring every region of the world has a stronger voice in shaping the future of our game.
I look forward to continuing this journey together - for the benefit of players, federations and chess lovers everywhere.@TurlovforChess
