Every wave of immigrants to America has faced suspicion, hostility, and discrimination. The Irish, Italians, Jews, Poles, and many others were once told they did not belong. Yet each wave helped build, strengthen, and renew this nation. Immigrants have always been at the heart of America’s greatness.

This is the fate of every company and every country that depends on China for anything. It is time for the world to wake up and build their own resilient supply chains.
Beijing’s newest export controls target construction equipment — including tunnel-boring machines, some of the world’s largest and most complex industrial devices. They’re used to build subways or drill roads and railways through mountains. China dominates the global market and India is among its main customers. bloom.bg/3UwyY8F 📷: Long Wei/VCG/Getty Images

This is the bind facing Indian Americans. Democrats continue elevating extreme leftists who would undermine the country. Republicans, who ought to be welcoming high-skilled immigrants, keep playing petty politics and pandering to the far-right fringe. My friend @RoKhanna is an example of the dilemma we face: he has become an extreme left wing socialist, trying to replicate the things his family ran away from in India.
This @sunandavashisht piece is straight from the heart. "For Indian-Americans, this is perhaps the first time that their political choices have produced such deep anxiety about their place in the country. Those who moved away from the Democratic Party and supported Trump in the hope of a rational debate on immigration now find themselves disappointed and disillusioned. They did not vote for a politics that would make their own legal immigration journeys suspect. The 2026 midterms, therefore, are more than a referendum on Trump's policies. They are also a moment of political reckoning for Indian-Americans. The community is increasingly wary of strengthening Maga further, but it is hardly finding an easy alternative. Traditionally fiscally conservative, committed to meritocracy, and supportive of firm action against illegal immigration, many Indian-Americans no longer see the Democratic Party as their natural political home either. The party's increasingly progressive establishment, and what they perceive as its flirtation with ideological extremes, has created its own discomfort. Indian-Americans find themselves searching for a political centre in a country where both parties appear to be moving further towards their respective extremes. Read: firstpost.com/opinion/from-m…

Yann LeCun was right & nobody in this industry wants to say it out loud. 109 million parameters beat 72 billion. He has spent years saying scale is not the thing that makes a model understand the world. Meta bet the other way. He left in November and started his own lab in Paris. Last Thursday he published the proof. The theory everyone has been running on since 2024 is that if you train models big enough, on text, on images, on sound, they all end up with the same picture of reality inside them. Size does it. Nobody ever proved that part. Randall Balestriero and LeCun proved it. And the proof says size was never doing the work. What does the work is which two things you show a model together. A photo and the caption of that photo are two views of one thing. Models trained on pairs like that get there fast. Two paragraphs pulled from the same document are not two views of one thing. Models trained on those get there slowly and expensively. Next word prediction is the second kind. That is what every chatbot in the world runs on. In their tests the first method reached the same understanding after 21.6 million examples. Next word prediction needed 900 million. And a 109 million parameter text model ended up closer to an image model's view of the world than a 72 billion parameter language model was. 660 times smaller.

Through my company, Vionix Biosciences, I’ve seen firsthand India’s capabilities, not just in clinical research and biotechnology, but in deep tech. The depth of talent in AI, advanced engineering, scientific research, and cutting-edge technology is incredible.
It's not just poverty, toilets, or highways, statistics like "the number of clinical trials done in India" indicating biomedical R&D and innovation can show India's development in the last decade.

Even the US is moving in the opposite direction. Much of the coverage about India is negative and misleading. I urge the US media to examine the facts objectively and set aside extreme biases. India has left behind the socialism that some are advocating!
What's incredible is that India has managed to reduce poverty by a huge amount while also reducing inequality!

I have long argued that whatever reparations are offered by Britain, no credible figure is payable and no payable figure is credible. But moral atonement for the ravages of colonialism is indispensable. I am glad to learn that Prime Minister Burnham is prepared to offer a formal apology on behalf of the British state for the horrors of slavery. But the omission of colonialism from his apology is inexplicable and inexcusable. It remains deeply shameful that Britain has never said a simple “sorry” for the loot, pillage, death and destruction perpetrated during the colonial era on millions of innocent victims of British imperialism. thehindu.com/news/internatio…

This is one of the most amazing achievements of modern times. Now we need to replicate this worldwide.
India saw about 496 million people lifted out of poverty between 2011 and 2023 in one of the world’s fastest declines in this metric, the World Bank said, although the gains remain uneven. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

I have finally cracked the mystery of Indian hate. For decades, conversations about race in America have gone like this. Liberals accuse conservatives of being racists, conservatives respond that they have non-racist reasons for their opinions. "No, I don't hate Mexicans, it's about the rule of law." "No, having more police isn't racist, in fact it helps black people the most." You can make an arguable case in each instance that conservatives had a point. This was our dialectic. Then the Indian came along. He's everything that conservatives have ever said they wanted in an immigrant: law-abiding, high-earning, family-oriented, legal, English-speaking, no terrorism or illiberal attitude. Here was an ultimate test that would show whether conservative opinions were ever based in reason. Conservatives not only failed to embrace Indians. They reacted with a fury to their existence that made all their previous prejudices look mundane. Imagine a woman who is attracted to toxic men but says she wants a nice guy. When she gets a nice guy who checks all the boxes, she hates him more than anyone else because he exposes her as engaging in self-delusion. His existence attacks her very identity. That's conservatives and Indians. The right wanted to believe that they had a political ideology that could appeal to smart, decent people. The conservative intellectual was always reverse engineering justifications to flatter the prejudices of chuds. Again, on most issues there was a plausibility to the arguments being made. Indians have exposed how fake the entire thing was. Conservative politics on a mass scale was rooted in stupidity and racism the whole time. Political scientists knew this already, but it's now become too glaringly obvious to deny, even for uninformed rightists themselves. There is nothing left for conservatives to do but give up on reason and embrace racial hate as their organizing principle. We should thank Indian immigrants, among all the other things they do, for providing this clarity. richardhanania.com/p/conserv…

I don't think people realise how big a deal this is. If you have cancer, or somebody you know has cancer, there is a company in Hyderabad that wants to build a personalised cancer vaccine for you. Try approaching any big pharma company and asking for a personal vaccine. If they even reply to your email, this is the response you'll get: we don't do that here. PopVax, on the other hand, takes your tumour sequencing data (or a sequence you've designed), designs candidate neoantigen vaccine sequences with their AI pipeline, produces the mRNA, encapsulates it in their LNP formulation, fills vials, and runs QC, all in 8 to 10 weeks. They’re publicly committing to capacity for 100+ of these over the next 12 months and asking people to email them their cancer type/stage and sequencing details. What a time to be alive.
Launching RNAFoundry.com – we manufacture personalized cancer vaccines.

Reality is even those at the frontier of AI have no idea where it is headed. They are as worried as they are excited. Yet no one dares to slow down or impose meaningful guardrails, fearing competitors will leave them in the dust. We are all passengers on a train with no brakes.
It’s almost incomprehensible how wide the distance is between someone who’s working at the frontier with AI and basically everyone else right now. The crazy thing is these lines are not converging, but only growing farther apart. If the curve of AI progress had leveled off, it would certainly have given most people and companies time to catch up or implement their workflows in a standardized way. The technology would have neutralized competitive advantage because everyone would be using it the same way. But what’s happened is the opposite. The curve of AI progress is basically going vertical right now, which means if you had codified your processes 3-6 months ago you’re likely already behind again. Now imagine most companies that kicked into gear a year ago and thought that they were done. Even further behind now. I’ve never seen a technology in my life and career that improves at this rate, which consequently means you need to upgrade your expectations at a similar rate. Our brains weren’t wired for this, and our organizational change management processes certainly weren’t either. With any form of recursive self improvement, things just get wilder. It’s a time when you will need to be constantly reevaluating the things that didn’t work just a couple months ago to see if they now can be solved. AI native companies certainly have a strong advantage due to this right now, so now it comes down to can the bigger companies keep up. Wild times.

Google and Meta were cash machines; now even their free cash flow is negative. Google has >$1 trillion in commitments, while OpenAI and Anthropic keep burning investor money. Could be greatest capital misallocation in history, with AI giants ending up toast like DEC, Data General, Wang, and Amdahl.

Mainframes gave way to minicomputers, then PCs, laptops, and smartphones. Computing exploded, but many pioneers vanished. AI will follow that path into people’s hands. Demand will rise but current leaders will fall.

Today's report in the NYT confirms that not only is the problem of Nvidia chips being diverted to China via Southeast Asia as bad as many people have asserted, but also that the leadership of the Department of Commerce and Nvidia are very likely aware of this, but are still doing nothing to act. It is mind boggling that we are doing nothing to stop this. The scale of China's export control circumvention efforts are truly without precedent, involving dozens or potentially even hundreds of billions of dollars worth of the most technologically advanced goods made by any firm on earth. This is undoubtedly the largest illegal transfer of controlled technology in world history. And neither BIS nor Nvidia are doing virtually anything to combat this. BIS is openly not enforcing rules that are already on the books and that would prevent chip diversion to China, and has not issued any rules to offer an alternative way to prevent such smuggling. Nvidia has repeatedly denied that smuggling is a problem, and lists Megaspeed--which multiple investigations have independently shown to be a Chinese front company--as an official regional cloud customer. And today the NYT reports that the US intelligence community has told the White House that MegaSpeed's CEO is a Chinese spy, and that she has cultivated a "close relationship" with Jensen Huang. And even more shockingly, the NYT states that senior administration officials "doubt that Mr. Huang could have remained unaware" of this fact. But Nvidia's website still lists Megaspeed as a regional cloud customer, and today it issued a statement falsely claiming that the assertions that Megaspeed diverted chips to China "were thoroughly investigated and debunked last year." This is just getting ridiculous. It needs to stop. The Department of Commerce claims that it is taking export control enforcement more seriously than any administration ever; how can it say that with a straight face when it is continuing to let Nvidia ship chips to a company whose CEO is a known Chinese spy? How can it entrust companies to do due diligence on customers when their internal processes are failing this badly? We simply have to do better, this level of incompetence is embarrassing and dangerous.

China's car market is collapsing, which is why the country is desperately exporting cars to Europe. But there are multiple dangers with importing vehicles from China One: they are going to be used for spying and they could even be bricked from Beijing. Two: these imports destroy local manufacturing, undermining national security. Three: If China's economy crashes these countries will have to do without new cars for a long time. cnbc.com/2026/10/28/china-ca…

This is crazy and terrifying. NVIDIA itself being compromised and Trump turning a blind eye??? I hope it is science fiction.
I called it a whole year ago‼️ Megaspeed CEO Huang Xiaole (黄小乐) aka Alice Huang, a Chinese businesswoman who had a close relationship with Jensen Huang, was found to be a Chinese intelligence asset funneling information to Beijing. President Trump was briefed and took no action. American spy agencies had gathered striking intelligence. Surveillance of Alice Huang revealed that she had developed a close relationship with Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive. The discovery that Beijing was getting reports from someone with direct access to Jensen Huang set off alarms at the White House. Roughly a year ago, Trump was briefed about the intelligence findings, which have not been previously reported, and chose not to do anything with the information. Trump has been wary of disrupting Nvidia’s chip sales, which are helping to drive the economy and the stock market, and of further complicating the trading relationship with China. American officials already suspected that Alice Huang was helping China evade constraints on its ability to gain access to advanced AI chips. But the revelation that she was feeding information directly to Beijing raised more troubling possibilities. And it left questions about whether she could be gleaning information about Nvidia, which as much as any company accounts for the lead the US has maintained in developing cutting-edge AI models. Jensen Huang has not received a defensive briefing, warnings sometimes given to Americans who are being targeted by foreign intelligence services. The surveillance of Alice Huang continues, and companies that have been affiliated with her continued this year to purchase Nvidia chips. When Trump was initially briefed on the intelligence last year, U.S. officials did not believe the Nvidia executive knew that Jensen Huang was gathering information for the Chinese. It is unclear whether intelligence officials have since updated their assessment, but some senior officials inside the Trump administration doubt that Jensen Huang could have remained unaware of what they had concluded was her intel-gathering role for China. The previous reporting about Alice Huang described her meteoric and somewhat mysterious rise. A Chinese businesswoman and investor, she eventually became a top official with Megaspeed, which the Commerce Department, toward the end of the Biden administration, began to suspect was helping China evade US prohibitions and gain access to the computing power of Nvidia chips. The US government has been investigating Megaspeed since late 2024, when a Commerce Department official visited its data center in Malaysia and found the site to be suspicious. The Nvidia equipment was still packed in boxes, suggesting it was being shipped in or out rather than installed there. Singapore has conducted its own investigation into Megaspeed. In 2025, Singaporean authorities brought Alice Huang in for questioning, but subsequently released her. The Commerce Department investigation into Megaspeed was handed over this year to the Justice Department. Megaspeed is among the firms in Southeast Asia that buy chips to build data centers and then rent their computing power to companies in China. Megaspeed is essentially a middle man. It has bought Nvidia chips from Aivres, the US arm of 🇨🇳 Inspur, which has been blacklisted for funneling technology to the Chinese military, though Aivres remains free of sanctions. Megaspeed has then provided that computing power to Alibaba and other Chinese companies. US officials believe the firm is one piece of a sprawling international effort by Chinese companies to access the chips needed to build and run AI. Investigators suspect that some Nvidia chips acquired by Megaspeed are also finding their way illegally into China. 1/n nytimes.com/2026/10/29/us/po…

This is pretty extraordinary, and on an open model to boot.
Introducing Samaya Sterling, our new model post-trained for challenging financial research that outperforms the frontier! Sterling started off as a two person research effort to see if we could increase efficiency in agentic orchestration. To our surprise we were able to post-train a much smaller model (Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a 30B mixture-of-experts model with 3B active parameters) to greater accuracy (58.9% vs 55.9% on FrontierFinance) and 11x lower cost ($0.61 vs $6.89) than Claude Fable 5.1, the best performing frontier model. We did this via a four-stage training process, two stages of SFT where the model first learns to research with our financial tools and how to construct a good agentic research strategy. The second two stages are RL, with an offline GRPO stage where the model further hones its research strategy from eight teachers that provide diverse approaches, and an online GRPO stage where the model can make end to end attempts and learn from its mistakes. We see substantial gains from the co-adaptation of the model and harness through post-training, both through the model learning to effectively use the high-quality financial tools, and better compaction approaches that let even a small model execute on longer and deeper research. We are exploring multiple follow-up directions, from multi-agent research swarms using this small model, to training firm-specific models to encode unique judgement, to training a larger model, where early results show even greater gains from the training process. The full research is linked below!
