For one of the C++ projects I lead, I established a simple rule: code must remain easy to read and in good taste for human engineers, whether it is handwritten or LLM-generated.
To support this, I maintain the design docs, style guide, contributing, and .clang-format config, and I’ve set up agent configs for Copilot and Claude Code. So far, the rule has worked well: the project is healthy and our productivity is high.
The first comment on my PR is always written by me rather than generated by Copilot, because I know a human colleague will read it.
Even now, generating C++ code without human review? I don’t think a responsible engineer would do that - and I’d question the motives of anyone trying to sell you on the idea.
