🚦HYDERABAD'S BIGGEST TRAFFIC BOTTLENECKS & THE SOLUTIONS BEING PLANNED!
As Hyderabad continues to expand, tackling traffic congestion has become a major infrastructure priority. From the IT corridor to the western, eastern and southern stretches, several key bottlenecks are being addressed through large-scale road development and traffic management initiatives.
Here are the major congestion hotspots and the proposed solutions:
🔹 KBR PARK – JUBILEE HILLS – BANJARA HILLS: With Jubilee Hills Checkpost recording 15,321 passenger car units per hour during peak traffic, a revised 4.3-km, six-lane bidirectional elevated steel corridor from Jubilee Hills Checkpost to NFCL Junction, estimated at ₹1,090 crore, is planned to provide signal-free movement across five major junctions.
🔹 GACHIBOWLI – IIIT JUNCTION – KHAJAGUDA – WIPRO JUNCTION: Three multi-level flyovers at IIIT, Khajaguda and Wipro junctions, along with an underpass at IIIT Junction, form part of an approximately ₹800-crore infrastructure package to ease congestion in the busy IT corridor.
🔹 UPPAL – NARAPALLY: The Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor is aimed at reducing signal interruptions and improving connectivity along the Warangal Highway towards the eastern suburbs.
🔹 MAILARDEVPALLY – KATEDAN – SHAMSHABAD ROAD: A proposed six-lane, bidirectional flyover costing approximately ₹345 crore is expected to improve uninterrupted movement across three major junctions and support industrial connectivity.
🔹 ORR – PARADISE – NH-44 / SH-01: HMDA's proposed integrated Y-shaped elevated corridor, backed by USD 395 million in financing approval from the New Development Bank, aims to separate regional through-traffic from local traffic and improve northern connectivity.
🔹 MISSING LINK ROADS ACROSS HYDERABAD: HRDCL has identified 133 missing-link and slip-road corridors covering 126.20 km to connect disconnected road networks, reduce detours and distribute traffic more efficiently.
🔹 BETTER JUNCTION MANAGEMENT: Flyovers are not the only answer. One-way systems, redesigned junctions, slip roads, improved road markings and better traffic coordination can also make a significant difference. The KBR Park one-way traffic arrangement demonstrates how traffic management has improved movement even before major infrastructure projects are completed.
