ICYMI: During the #AndroidDevSummit keynote last week, Marisol Ryu, Director of Product Management on Laptops & Tablets at Google, said the following: "Googlebook spans across large screen form factors from clamshells, convertibles, and soon detachables." Are you excited👀?
Google says Googlebook ‘detachables’ are coming soon  9to5google.com/2026/11/01/go… by @technacity

Office 365 just seems to be one of the biggest scams to me, considering we have this amazing thing called Google Docs that is free and works just as well

That's what I'm trying to say. Let's call out the flaws. Let's admit that it's very usable but there are still some things to work on. Unusable, unreviewable, terrible, no one should buy it—those are not things we should be saying in my opinion. If that's someone's actual take, I don't think they understand Chromebooks or Googlebooks.

Pixel tablet, supported past what was even promised. Pixelbook, supported for years and years running Chrome OS. They shut Stadia, and Google+. But they have supported their products even if they change long term trajectory sometimes

I made a video about critics misunderstanding the Google book and people are really taking this the wrong way. I don't think it's a bad thing to criticize the Googlebook. I DO think it's a bad thing to make like 20 minute videos saying they are unusable. Or to say not a single person should buy one. It's absurd. I think it's because so many people also think Chromebooks shouldn't exist and that they're not worth buying, but these are basically premium versions of Chromebooks. It's a new OS so it's not perfect, but most of the bugs are already fixed or in the short pipeline to be fixed within the next couple of weeks anyway. It is a web-based operating system with Android apps. And it should have been marketed like that from Google from the beginning. But it is worth buying for plenty of people and for people who want premium Android laptops. But it is not a replacement for your MacBook or your Windows laptop. It's only a replacement for people who don't need all the application support right away. We should be able to have a nuanced conversation and say all of those things.

I don't think this is dumb at all. We should ask ourselves what will put more stress on the device long-term over the years: is it leaving it closed or leaving it open? I think it's actually a good strategy to try to leave it open so that it's not constantly in that closed position.

He would argue that they have cancelled a million projects. But Chromebooks are the best comparison and they have kept them alive and updated. They've even extended support over the years on several models

There's nothing wrong with this joke. Its funny. But Google has supported their Chromebooks and given longer software support than Windows or Mac. Google has a perception and marketing problem though. Killing off a bunch of apps doesn't mean they always kill off every piece of hardware.
Dressing up as a Googlebook for Halloween because nothing is scarier than knowing you’ll be dead in 3 years

So what happens when they have Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Halo, Gears of War, and countless other franchises like Call of Duty, and even though they can't make all of them exclusive, they could make most of them exclusive? What happens if they decide to put World of Warcraft on console only on the Xbox? What happens when they give you a digital version of a ton of these games and then give you a PC version for free, which you don't get on PlayStation? What about having a better subscription service? What about having better cloud streaming? The only single thing PlayStation has right now that is technically better is public perception and I suppose a few more exclusives. That's legitimately it. And their lead is drastically dwindling as they completely ignore their fanbase, while Xbox is actually listening more and more to the fanbase. PlayStations are so overrated because they took their lead and they squandered it and they've done nothing but piss off the fanbase for a long time. Outside of firing people because they radically overstaffed and had 13 layers of management in the past. Basically outside of fixing the past mistakes. Xbox has done nothing but good for like a year now. I have no confidence in Sony anymore. But instead I will buy a physical copy of a game that I could resell anytime I want and I will pay $40 for it and then I will have a PC copy and I will have a digital copy on my Xbox or on any Xbox that I play on. And I will be able to resell it anytime at the end of the day. And down the line, if I choose to reinstall it, I could reinstall it off a physical disc, which PlayStation won't be making pretty soon. It's a massive advantage that allows me to play games on my PC, on my handheld, and on my Xbox, rather than PlayStation that only lets you buy a streaming handheld and nothing else. You can say a lot like a lot of people are, but you can't really name much more than a couple of exclusives as a better thing than Xbox. Other than that, PlayStation literally has nothing.

I feel like we're the only ones out here defending the Googlebook nowadays, like legitimately

There’s a slight (but audible) crunch/creak in my iPhone Duo hinge when I open it, which isn’t necessarily cause for concern, but it’s something I notice now which is annoying. It happened after I came to Sri Lanka a couple of days ago, and I haven’t been anywhere dusty, the beach, or really even used the Duo outside, so I wonder if it’s due to the change in humidity and temperature? The rest of my Duo experience has been great though.

Apple just gave up on user experience lol. They’re strictly focused on amazing hardware now.
