To understand how the brain forms memories, feelings and behaviours has long been a dream for researchers.
Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel have been awarded the 2026 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries leading to optogenetics, which makes it possible to switch on, or off, the activity of individual nerve cells in a living brain.
This method is now being used in laboratories around the world to reveal the brain’s mysteries.
Excited to share our new review on the developmental origins of brain cancer! We discuss how gliomas co-opt neural development programs and how the tumor–neuron interface may reveal new therapies. A joy to work with @BhaduriLab & @FilbinMariella! Link: shorturl.at/T12Mn
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️
This month, we recognize the courageous children facing cancer and the families, caregivers, and communities who support them throughout their journey.
@FilbinMariella, MD, PhD, studies childhood brain cancers by directly studying the tumors of the patients she treats. By understanding the biology of these cancers, she is discovering new strategies to treat them. Learn more about her work here: bit.ly/4wTe697
Thrilled to share our collaborative work with @FilbinMariella, now online in Neuro-Oncology! We identify HDAC2 as a tractable target for H3K27M DMG growth in vitro and in vivo. Congrats to @JunQiLab and @FilbinMariella — excited for more to come together!

Today we honor those living with, surviving, or remembering someone with ependymoma, a rare brain and spinal cord tumor that affects far more than the body.
For everyone this day feels personal to, we’re holding space with you.
You are not alone.
Thrilled to share our latest study on pediatric ependymoma, out in @Nature! Biggest congratulations to all members of our international team, especially the labs of @VarunVenkatara2 and Kristian Pajtler, and fearless leader in my lab, @DaeunJeong10. @DanaFarber@BostonChildrens
Delighted that this work uncovering developmental links to supratentorial ependymoma is out now in @Nature! Again huge thanks to our collaborators @VarunVenkatara2 and pajtlerlab, and all of our many friends who helped push this to the finish line! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
We are pleased to announce the Fellows of the AACR Academy Class of 2026. We look forward to celebrating their pioneering scientific achievements at the AACR Annual Meeting in April. brnw.ch/21wZqOo#AACR26#AACRFellows
Mariella Filbin (@FilbinMariella) is exploring how aggressive childhood brain tumors hijack normal brain activity to repair their own DNA. This research aims to break through radiation resistance in diffuse midline gliomas. 🧠 @DanaFarberNews
📢 Announcing The Mark Foundation 2026 Emerging Leader Award winners! 📢
