For Americans wondering what the hell is happening in Poland today:
Poland is having a constitutional crisis, and apparently nobody can agree on who gets to enforce the Constitution.
Here’s the background:
Poland has a conservative president, Karol Nawrocki, and a liberal prime minister, Donald Tusk.
When conservatives were in power, they overhauled the courts and appointed judges. Liberals called it illegal. Now liberals are in power and trying to undo those changes. Conservatives are calling that illegal.
Naturally, everyone claims they’re defending democracy.
Here’s what happened today:
• A judge announced the suspension of the Constitutional Court’s conservative chief justice and his deputy.
• Police secured the court building and reportedly prevented the chief justice from entering.
• The court’s official X account called it a “coup d’état.”
• The justice minister is seeking to lift the judges’ immunity to pursue criminal charges.
• Protesters gathered outside, and several people were detained.
• Poland’s president reportedly cut short his trip to Senegal to return home.
Imagine Democrats and Republicans fighting over who controls the Supreme Court, while police secure the building and both sides accuse each other of staging a coup.
The entire dispute is about who has the legal authority to interpret the Constitution, except neither side agrees on who gets to decide that either.

“Well, here’s what my take on it… I was all for the league cleaning up flopping, you know, when I heard they were going to do it… unfortunately I think the league has their own definition of what a flop is, which is needed but confusing when like you see a flop, everyone kind of knows what it is. It doesn’t really need to be overly explained. I think where they got it wrong is all these flops are coming on the defense and that’s not what the people want out of the game. They want the flops on the offensive players out of the game. You know, the league was very intentional about saying the fans didn’t want to see flopping but that’s not the flopping, they don’t care if a defender spills down and shouts. What they care is that the offensive players are baiting the game and falling down and getting unnecessary free throws. That’s what they care about because that’s not really in the spirit of what anyone wants to tune in and watch”

Documents from the Epstein files show he advised Ariane de Rothschild and introduced counsel for Edmond de Rothschild Group’s 2015 DOJ Swiss Bank Program settlement over helping U.S. clients hide assets.
